Over $3K(US) in one day. I'm probably one of the luckier ones because I cashed out any 'financials' back last year when the rumblings about the 'sub-prime' crisis began to emerge. Thankfully, I do not need to rely on the markets for retirement, but I feel really, really horribly for the people that do. Who would have thought that companies like Lehman, and Merrill, both of which would have been 'blue chips' only a short time ago would be in such dire straits.
Some people believe that this could be the 'Great Depression' of our generation. Maybe I'm too much of a 'Friedman' for my own good, but we will make it through this, and we will all be better for it. There's always money to be made in situations like this, too.
Edit: Checked with my mutual fund dude. He sounded very, very upset. I'm not looking forward to my next statement.
