Use the pistol - probably the most underrated weapon in SP. One headshot brings down a Nod Officer.

what level are u playing it on?

i never run outta ammo on soldier. commando i haev a little difficulty, but its not too bad.

keep using the pistol as much as possible, headshots wreak 'havoc', and you can get to the lower levels, full of ammo.
