Here's a few tips
1) http://ren.game-maps.net/index.php?action=file&id=1152
As Ironwarrior said, pop this in your data directory and type the console command hud 0
2) Find the biggest monitor in your house and set your scrren resolution to maximum.
3) Set all standard Renegade quality setting to max
4) If your system supports it, enable the shaders
5) Use first-person and the timed-c4 weapon. Then throw your only timed c4 for a weapon-less screen
6) Use the attached objects.ddb file (self-extractor)
Buy a GDI grenadier to enter Ghost mode. Space raises you while crouch lowers you.
This objects.ddb modification cannot be used as a cheat as you will not be able to connect to WOL and will suffer one-shot-one-kill.

Damn, wish I'd of seen this sooner. It's past Saturday.
Are you still doing this? I can get you some at 2048x1536 with 4xAA (or 8xAA or 16xAA if you want, but I can't tell a difference), including supersampling for bushes, trees, etc., and 16xAF. I know how to remove the HUD, but the credits and small stats in the upper right remain (Edit: Saw the link above fixes this). Oh, and do custom skins matter? I assume they would since they change the way the level would look.

As far as everything else you mentioned, anything above 1024x768 is great. Sadukar was on the right track, but a lot of his screenshots don't have the "awe" factor I'm looking for.
