How can I change the hud_autoguns.dds file without losing the alpha information, so it won't disappear ingame?

When I try to modify the gun huds it says: All alpha information will be lost.

When I load the game with the new hud, the icons are all gone!

How can I save them as a .dds file without having that problem?
