They're both derivative of Bavarian, same with Polish, Austrian, Bulgarian and even Flemmish to an extent.

Oh, and English, German and Dutch are all Germanic languages.

He'd already mentioned German and Dutch, and English doesn't count since it's a Creole Language, there's at lest Viking, Gaul, Germanic and Latin influences to the language, hence why it's a mess.
