I've read a similar problem (other program) on another forum while googling before....
I hope i remember it correctly:

Plain Renegade's (not TfD) Default Path = C:\Westwood\Renegade\
Sometimes Windows isn't happy with things installed to C:\
You should add the 'Program Files' dir like this -> C:\Program Files\Westwood\Renegade\
If i remember it correctly this should solve the problem
