I'm about to change my ADSL (512/256) internet> I'm getting a T1 connection which will be sahred with my condominium neighboors (about 20 ppl). Will I be able to setup a good Renegade server with the new connection?

Better? Yes. T1 is a big big step up but, with 20 users, your server performance will really depend on how many users are sucking up the bandwidth at the time you’re hosting. Unless of course, you guys are going to use a hub/switch type "thing" to evenly divvy up the bandwidth. This would be better because then you know your bandwidth needs wont ever drop below what you’ve set the server up to run at.

i tried T1 in my apartment complex as your going to get. you speed depends on a few things. if the T1 is in line then you can pretty much ignore the rest of this as not much will interrupt the signal. however, if it isn't in line (in the telephone lines) then you may have a problem. you need to see if you can find the antenna then see how big it is. for my complex the antenna looks like a pointed 3' peice of pvc piping (we had a big one but the other tenants complained that it looked bad and the T1 company put the smaller one up.) the last thing is the line of site. if there are other apartments in the way of it (as there were for mine) then it can slow it down as microwave ovens that are in use will degrade the signal. when i got mine (which was only for 2 months before i got rid of it) i did the connection test on cnet and got about 128 kbps. i now have dsl (640/272) and at the least i test at 290 kbps.

My building will have an antenna, a proxy server and a 100Mbit switch. It seems to be a very stable network. My T1 company has a 10Gbit pipe linked to the main brazilian backbone so, unless everyone starts downloading big files simultaneously, I will have a very good connection, up at least for a 16 players server. Well, I hope so, because atm there's NO brazilian server for Renegade. Smile
