It's important--if you use gmax and Windows XP, don't install this update--there's apparently some type of conflict that prevents gmax from loading newly saved files after installing this object.
But, according to ACK on my post in the mod forum, if you can live with saving, making a new scene, and merging every time you make a new gmax scene, then go ahead and install this update.
Who do you think should be notified or is responsible? Microsoft or Discreet? :-\
