	| If you live in any of these states, using the Internet could well soon be illegal.
There are laws being proposed in each and every one of these states that would prohibit:
"To conceal or assist another to conceal from any communication service provider or from any lawful authority, the existence or place of origin or of destination of any communication" (SC Bill)

If no one knows what this means, just think about what a router does. It basically HIDES the address of information being sent from a computer.

Like how your home DSL/Cable routers work. It hides your internal IP address.

This is a big deal, so if you know of any sites where this information could be spread, please get it out there. We need to write our state senates and give them a little lesson in how the internet works.

No... Using the internet won't be illegal. Either you're misquoting a site, quoting a misinformed site, or not quoting the entire thing. What site did you get that from?

Dude, sorry, but seeing as how the internet is pretty much made up of routers, it would basically make internet access in any of these states illegal, unless you have a direct line to a neighboring state.

I know it sounds pretty far out there, and some states have the wording that says you can have permission from the provider and it wouldn't be illegal, but this law encompasses more than just router. How about proxy servers? encrypted email? firewalls?

at the very least if this law passes, you will be unable to run windows 98 or up in these states, because it supports internet connection sharing. and you will not be able to have home routers like we have now. Of course, you could ask your ISP for permission to use your router, but what ISP is likely to tell you 'yes'? Certainly not Bellsouth, who charges $40 a month for static IP address EACH.

	| Here's a thought, you could just completely ignore that law if its passed and it can be added to the list of laws that aren't enforced and no one cares about.
I'm also not supposed to drive and talk on a cell phone, or for that matter download music. But I do it anyway, the same thing applies here. Honestly, you think a SWAT team is gonna rapell down out of choppers through your skylight, and force you to unplug a router? Realistically though, no one is going to make you stop.

Not to even mention the chances of this law getting passed are nill.

Well, first I don't have a skylight, so they'd have a very hard time in doing that.
Second, I don't have a router, so they can't unplug it.

	| you guys just aren't getting it.
will people abide by this law? probably not, but companies WILL HAVE TO.

i mean, the subject is much more broad than just a router. Routers are not there for 'security reasons', routers exist to bridge two seperate networks.

But what about encrypted email. This law would make it illegal for you to encrypt email messages without your providers express permission.

Or passwords. Or creditcard info. Or whatever. It's not like the ISP would do anything with it, but there are always shady people working at large ISP's... and it would be really easy for anyone to pick up anything thats not encrypted.

What about Windows? If this law goes thru, the wording of "communication device" includes: "software which is capable of intercepting, transmitting, re-transmitting, acquiring, decrypting or receiving any communication service or the facilitation thereof"

And seeing as how it would be 'unlawful' to "Possess, use, manufacture, make, develop, assemble, sell, distribute, lease, license, transfer, import into this state or offer, promote or advertise for sale, use or distribution any communication device", that would make Windows ILLEGAL in 8 states. Hell, it would make practically any modern operating system illegal. It would make web browsers illegal.

Ok look, if you don't live in these states, and you don't really give a shit, then don't post your sarcastic comments. I felt this was an important piece of legislation, that has the full backing of the MPAA and RIAA, and if you lived in these states it was important for you to know, so you can write to your state senate, and tell them how foolish they would look if they pass this piece of shit law.

Say it with me, Bearxor is a dumbass.

Lol, Bearxor were you dropped on your head constantly as a child or what?

I live in Florida, but I don't give a shit, why? Because it's bullshit, If this was for real, it wouldn't get past anyone, it would be dropped faster than you were as a child.

Just listen to yourself. "The internet and all operating systems/browsers/etc. will become illegal by this law", common sense dumbass, pretend like you have some.

And you still haven't provided us with a link to a site that has this so called "law" on it.
