At least twice a day.

Although civilized country in this case does mean a country where everyone rides a bike and thus they get stolen way too often Sad

Own one, don't ride it much because the terrain around my house totally sucks for riding bikes.

My everyday travels take me at least 20 miles (one way), and on some weekends it's up to 150-350 miles (one way). I drive, no bikes.

I haven't rode my own bike in a long time. I used to ride it to and from school every day. But one of the tires is flat and won't hold any air. The nearest bike shop isn't too far away, but definitely not in walking distance. I don't have a car that is big enough for my bike, so it's kind of been sitting in my garage waiting to get repaired.

I do sometimes ride my little brother's or my mom's bike, but not often.

You mean those things that granola's/hipster's/the homeless use as a means of conveyance?

I ride a motorcycle, if that at all counts.

Perhaps at your side of the pond. Here more people have one or more bikes than cars. Hell, I'm a student and even I got 3 normal (city/urban) bikes, one "beachcruzer" (which is for sale Wink ) and a mountainbike.

Don't own a bike.
Any journey I take is either short enough to walk, or long enough to drive.
I could cycle to work I guess, but as London is dangerous on the roads and I value my life, I never would. Why the mayor decided to add public bycycles is beyond me (it doesn't ease congestion or pollution, as cars are on the roads longer and in lower gears poodling along behind the bikes).

I own a bike. Before having a car, I used it daily for multiple km. Now I live in Brussels, riding a bike is more dangerous than driving a car here Razz. Also, riding a bike is tiring. So I choose option number 2.

Well, if you have less cars on the roads, they are less often involved in traffic jams, so the air gets cleaner. Another argument is that it's easier to fit a lot of bicycles on the road than a lot of cars, and that the road safety for cyclists and pedestrians increases with less cars on the road. A cyclist crashing into another cyclist or pedestrian will have less severe injuries than when a car crashes into a cyclist or pedestrian.

Edit:
I got to mention that I know of only two countries in which bicycling feels rather safe: Denmark and the Netherlands. Motorists in these countries are used to people on bicycles and are more aware of the potential dangers I think.

From my experience is Deutschland less ideal to bicycle in, less bicycle lanes and the traffic isn't used to cyclists as much as in DK or NL.

I can see why you might think that. But it isn't the case in practice.
10 Cars with no bicycles getting in their way will travel more quickly and spend more time in higher gears. They get to where they are going quicker, so spend less time on the road (polluting for a shorter amount of time), and they travel efficiently (meaning while they are travelling they pollute less).

5 cars stuck behind 5 bicycles are limited to travelling at the speed of the bicycle most of the time (as it is often too dangerous too over-take, or impossible due to shitty sized roads). Those 5 cars will be on the road for twice the amount of time, so they might as well be 10 cars, and they will be crawling along in low gears, polluting the environment even more.

If you had 10 bicycles, then yeah sure... But that isn't going to happen.

Check this out. He might be seen as a nut, but he was convincing enough to stop San Francisco going all "green" with bicycles.

Yeah, I guess you could fit more on the road than cars. Although you can fit more people on a bus than a bike. Plus with busses the state purchases them, so just introduce new greener busses.

Safer with cyclists? Hmm... Our mayor introduced free cycles for the city (or pay if you use them for over x amount of time).
So now instead of safety savvy cyclists with hi-vis jackets and helmets, we now have business men in suits with no hi-vis jackets and no safety helmet cycling to their station/meeting/whatever, or worse still, tourists who have no idea where they are going around London's complicated one-way system. They're a menace. There's no law requiring you to wear a helmet either, so it's not even illegal.

I'm not saying it doesn't work well in other countries, but it's a joke in my city. They should just improve public transport.
To be fair, they have invested in some greener busses, but they also fucked up by re-introducing the dangerous bendy bus, only to have it taken back out of service again. However, the greener busses where then flown around the world to show how awesome they are, epic fail.

I voted I don't have a bicycle because there was no option for owning one but never riding it. I have a vehicle now, I would never ride bike anywhere. Besides, I like to walk for exercise.

You could just grab some tires/rims and put them on yourself :S

I've tried that already once before. But it's a mountain bike and it has a lot of different gears. I'm not very proficient in the mechanical workings of a bike. I mean, if it was a regular single-speed bike... then yeah, no problem, I could have fixed it myself. But it has over 20 gears and the chain is wrapped around them in a specific way.

Once I tried to fix the tire myself and I ended up screwing up the gears that are attached. It ended up costing me more money to get the bike fixed than it would have if I just let them do the tires for me.

And what's really stupid is that when I brought it to the store to get it fixed, they fixed the chain and the gears and filled the tires with air... but they didn't stop the tire leak. So it went flat again and it's been sitting in my garage ever since.
