Hero Class?[ 16 votes ]
1. Fighter/Warrior 0 / 0%
2. Cleric/Priest 0 / 0%
3. Wizard/Mage 2 / 13%
4. Rogue/Thief 2 / 13%
5. Sorceror/Warlock 2 / 13%
6. Paladin/Knight 2 / 13%
7. Druid/Shaman 2 / 13%
8. Barbarian/MartialArt 1 / 6%
9. Archer/Ranged 5 / 31%

Note: This is NOT focused on any one RPG. This is fantasy in general.
For those who have/do play RPG's, what hero class do you prefer and why?
I tried grouping the classes best I could, hope I didn't leave one out or make one too general.

Pyro

Lol'd

I go with Thief/Rogue almost all the time, though. Especially if the game has good stealth/sneak mechanics.

Also, you left out Archer/General Ranged.

I'm yet to see an RPG with an underpowered mage class.

lol'd because it's true. Mages are always rigodamndiculously overpowered. OH LOL BUT THEY HAVE GLASS HEALTH! Yes that's such a weakness when nothing can hit them since they have ridiculous range, almost always have the best AoE attacks, and can easily stun/hold you off and make you fucking useless.

With the exception of maybe Mabinogi, but Mabinogi doesn't have classes, just skills.

Traditionally, there's supposed to be a rock-paper-scissors relationship between the three archetypes (Fighter/Rogue/Mage). Mage blows up/disables/stuns/whatever fighters, rogues can sneak/out-burstdamage mages, fighters can out-tank/win in the long run against rogues. The problem comes with most RPGs not developing the sneaking/burst damage aspect of rogues enough, so mages have free reign to dominate things..

Yeah, I don't mind an extended rock-paper-scissors effect with more classes, but most fail to do this. At the very least then, make it so every class has strengths and weaknesses to certain aspects of any other class- so it'd come down to who's more skillful. Which means, MMORPG's in general need to be a shitton more skill-based, and regular RPG's need somewhat intelligent AI.

Mages are never overpowered, because they always have to wear those unsexy coats. Only rogues get to wear sexy half naked elf armor!

My mage on WoW does fire (pyro, lol) so he's less inclined to hinder an enemy than he is to blow him sky-high. I agree theye're overpowered somewhat, but I don't use them for that reason - I just think wielding magic offensively is very fun. I also like having a plethora of spells to use in combat, even if I specialize in one type.

Dover got his butt kicked by Hammerdins with their harlequinn caps and SoJ's etc.. all through Diablo and is now mad because his Druid sucked.

Also, Vagina Sleeves are awesome.

Regardless that I cannot sincerely vote, Barbarian/Martial artist seems to be the same as Fighter, but Fighter is too broad a category.

Yeah, I've always seen them as similar, really. Kind of an unnecessary separation IMO.

Nah, I have a Hammerdin, but they're EZ-mode. Hammerdins make Diablo EZPZ. I try not to use him.

They're different enough for D&D (The basis for all traditional Western RPGs, whether they care to admit it or not) to make the distinction.

True, though their general playstyle is similar enough to the usual Fighter/Warrior class to be grouped together. I mean, if you were to take those choices off, you'd instantly got for Fighter/Warrior as the closest possible (and obviously, you can't list EVERY single class from every RPG...).

Just wondering, would that fit in with sorceror/warlock or is it different?
