The original ones of course. I found it to rather distracting when they started using CGI for the aliens. They should have stuck to costumes.

The new ones were a mindfuck because all the shit from episodes 1-3 looked better than episodes 4-6. The other two strikes were that the new ones had Jar Jar, and that he wasn't brutally murdered for our enjoyment.

You're saying a trilogy of films made in the late 70's and early 80's have 'fail graphics?' What'd you expect them to look like? :/

They both had their ups and downs. The old ones were more fun to watch, but I felt some parts were long and overdone (especially in episode 4 and 6).

As for the new ones, I don't think episode 1 or 2 were that good. I loved episode 3 though, that may actually be my favourite Star Wars movie.

The official order of best to worst is:

III
VI
IV
V
II
I

So you have to conclude that the older ones are the best, despite III being the best of them all, two of the older ones come in the top three.

There, I have solved the dilema. Smile

I liked them all pretty equally... except III. That one was by far the best of the series.

But each movie has their moments where you just can't get enough of that scene.

I - Pod race
II - Clone Reinforcements on Geonosis
III - "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
IV - Assault on the Death Star
V - Battle of Hoth
VI - Finale

The originals, by far. The new three films just took themselves way too seriously.

It seemed to me that, for each new movie, the Jedi were raised higher and higher up on a pedestal. In Episodes 2 and 3, Jedi were really powerful, whereas in Episodes 4,5,6 Luke was able to become a half-decent Jedi in a short time.
Just pointing something out.

The original films, by far.

You know, because the cast could act. They were cliche, they were campy, but the characters had good chemistry and good lines. Special effects don't make good films, people do.

Ewan MacGregor, IMHO, was the only saving grace of the prequels. The handful of reprised roles were a nice touch, and Samuel L. Jackson was fun to watch, but the rest of the acting was wooden and the chemistry was nonexistent. Many of the effects came across as shoehorned in, existing lore was completely disregarded (hot tip, Lucas- you may be the creator, but you can't just let people publish fiction for more than two decades then throw it all out the window), and the camp- of which there was much- was decidely not of the good variety. Anakin blows up giant starship by mistake? WTF? "Roger Roger?" Fuck you, Lucas.

Nevermind that the entire "plot" of the second prequel can be summed up thusly: WWWWAAAAAAANNNNNGGGGSSSSSTTTT!!!!!111!1!1!!!1oneoneoneeleventyshiftone!!!

And don't even get me started on the retconning inflicted upon the original movies after the prequels came out. That there was no DVD release before those three abortions of cinematic spooge is a horrible tragedy.

Pfeh.

I have to disagree with you about the acting.

The acting in the newer movies did make me facepalm a few times. But that in no way shows that the acting in the older movies was any better.

I treat them both as if they are on equal ground.

As for the point about Luke becoming a Jedi really quickly: You have to remember, he is a descendant of the force himself. Anakin never had a father. His mother simply had him with no male intervention. (A virgence in the force). Although Luke had a mother, his father was born from the force, therefore Luke is a direct decedent of the force itself.

As such, he is able to harness and use it much more naturally than others. What might take another apprentice years of training, Luke could probably have a natural talent for. Also the hard trials he had to endure (like facing his father and the emperor himself)

However, that's not to say that Luke is considered a Jedi master. He becomes the last remaining living force wielding knight after Yoda dies of old age. Luke's own natural morals help him along his ascendancy as well. (Being a Jedi isn't simply about wielding the force, it's about knowing how life works and how justice should be served to preserve peace in the galaxy.)

Also, don't forget the time laps between episode V and episode VI. The entire time he was training.

Another way to think of it:
The Jedi way didn't just spawn out of nothingness. Someone or group had to have come up with the organization. Thought up the rules and standards and taught it to others. Luke just has to do that same thing and come up with the order on his own.

Thumbs Up Good summary.

I also thought this was pretty interesting:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber

In the early incarnations of the Star Wars story, lightsabers were not exclusive to the Jedi and Sith. In fact, they were very mundane, being used by Rebel and Imperial troopers alike. George Lucas then limited the weapon to only the Jedi & Sith so as to give the weapon a unique feel.

In the early rough draft of Star Wars in 1974, lightsabers were called "laserswords."
