Should RenGuard send out the latest scripts.dll?[ 45 votes ]
1. not to anyone 2 / 4%
2. to those who have said yes to core patches 20 / 44%
3. to everyone 23 / 51%

I think there was a poll like this before the board crash but its gone now Smile
So here goes.

Basicly, this update would be a small (~250k or so) download that would be downloaded in the same way as RenGuard updates are downloaded.
It would only be downloaded once when the scripts.dll is updated.

I think everyone should have this, there are no disadvantages.

When people ask me "Plz" just because it's shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because it's shorter then "Yes"

Yea, I vote everyone.
Your scripts.dll has extra/more/better scripts. If everyone had it, it would be like upgrading their renegade, which is a good thing to have, an updated version of renny.
And if some b00n doesn't like em, they can just rename the files and have done with it.

Oh and btw, this installer would download and install autmoatically with no user interaction required.

How RenGuard would detect that the installer needs to be sent is that it would check your scripts.dll.
If its not one the RenGuard server knows about or if it is one that is out of date, it would send the new installer.

I don't think doing this to every one is a good thing. What if I run a small server from time to time (not FDS) and use a modified scrips.dll. I wouldn't wand renguard to over write it, but i would still like to still get core patches.

Edit: unless you just check everyone's scrilts.dll against all known scrips.dlls and if it's not one of them then don't update, but if it's oroginal or any of the publicly released scrips then update it to the newest one.

There sould be another option in renguard that will let you select if you want the scrips.dll update or not.

In that case, one of 2 things would happen
1.You would have a seperate install of Ren for use as a server.
or 2.Your modified scripts.dll would be "approved" for RenGuard use by Blackhand Studios.

The same would apply to those doing scripts.dll development.
They would need to keep a seperate non-RenGuard install for development/testing.

In any case, even if we dont send the scripts.dll out to you, your "modified" scripts.dll would still be rejectred by RenGuard (the RenGuard team has decided that allowing any scripts.dll at all that we dont know about is a security risk and therefore we wont be doing that).

How nice is that now? You stop forcing users to stuff like that.

RG is enough...RenGuard will filter our the n00bs...for the people that know what they are doing, that can be done by a "!ban [name]" command.

BHS already force us to varify w3d files, now the scripts.dll? What next will we have to varify after this?

You cannot make Renegade a prison... Confused

We are doing this to prevent cheaters.
Anyone with C++ skills could cheat with a custom replaced scripts.dll. (I wont say exactly how because that would aid cheaters but I know of an example that is fairly easy to do, runs on the client and is undectable from the server end)
Hence why we are checking for modified scripts.dll files.
If you have a modified dll that ISNT a cheat, it will be added just like w3d files are.

BTW, we are working on a way to streamline the approval process for w3d files so that getting w3d files approved for RG is easier but that isnt done yet.

I truly dislike being forced to do something. I personally would stop using RG and pass my thoughts on this along.

If only this game would be supported by Punkbuster... This whole "we have all the rights to the game and to your game folder" thing is really getting on my nerves.

I suck cock and love it... absolutely love it. And I just got banned for being too immature to be allowed to post here.

Could have been done, but there wasn't enough cooperation to do it.
