unlock gnome topic yes/no[ 32 votes ]
1. yes, i laike gnomes 25 / 78%
2. no dont unlock (i might be racist) 3 / 9%
3. all these moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain, time to die 4 / 13%

I think the gnome topic was unjustly and unnecessarily closed by carrier. it is a great topic with lots of history behind it, and a staple of the renegade forums general discussion. talk about taking the rules too seriously when locking that topic. what do ya'll think?

Locking that topic should be an instant demod. Some lines you just don't cross.

I have a feeling he was just temporarily locking it to get people to stop posting in it and let the time capsule sink back down a ways before opening it back up. It's not the same if the roof gnomes thread is always up top. I've removed the lock but don't abuse the nature of the thread.

Wow, wtf is this?
How did an unregistered person post? Huh

This thread goes way back. And at that time, you were most likely able to post as a guest.

Wrong. It's because those posts were from the old Westwood forums (if I'm not mistaken), and all the names of the original posters were still intact, but they all had the member number of -1, and then when Crimson switched to FUD just recently, it must not have accomodated that and given everybody (from the old forums) "Anonymous".

Yep, unfortunately that is the case. If I can ever come up with a better way to do it, I'll find a way to re-import them. phpBB supported anonymous posting with a filled-in username which worked, but FUD doesn't.

(For the record, this is my first and only post in this thread, and hopefully it will be my last.)

Enforcing rules without meaning or reason is a waste of time and power, imo.

Reason: bumping a topic that has long since died.
Reason: Spamming said topic. No post in there really relates to what it was created for. Perhaps it should go to the HoF (I personally don't see the attraction, but meh) but it doesn't need to stay open.

That's not what I mean.

Rules are meant to protect the people of this forum. Not punish them.

Why restrict their use of something when it doesn't cause any problems or conflict? Even though it says in the rules to not allow it, it is saying it under the contents of protecting people on the forum from having to suffer from some form of conflict that derives out of it.

If no one is suffering from some form of conflict derived out of 'breaking the rule' then there really is no purpose or meaning behind enforcing it in that particular scenario.

Carrier has a point.

Why necro such a thread to spam in it when there is a whole section devoted to spam and a new thread can simply be made?

But at the same time it doesn't harm anyone either, but then, the rules are rules and should be enforced really.

Interestingly enough, since it's been unlocked 2 people have posted in it...why did you campaign for it to be opened if no-ones gonna post in it?

I say hall of fame it TBH.

Putting the thread in the HoF would ruin it. It's an epic thread, but the tradition is that it remains unlocked. It would lose some of its significance if it was to be put in the HoF.

insert_brain_here, the thread ISN'T supposed to get continuous posts. The thread only should be posted in for a couple of days where it sinks back to oblivion only to be revived several months down the line.

I'm personally sick of seeing people spam the hell out of that topic, for no other reason but the fact that it has a lot of pages. I requested it to be moved to HOF and locked it for the time being.

If there's another valid reason needed: so I don't need to read the spam in it every time.

Is 'insulting' me supposed to make your post more valid or your e-peen hard?

I'm not even gonna start discussing the value of it being 'epic' cos i truly don't care if it's 'epic' or not.

Oh, and i'm sure when the topic was created the real intention for it was to be necroed every so often.

I know what we should do, let this thread die and post in it a few months down the line, then let it die again, then post in it again another few months down the line. See where i'm going with that? Or, you could even necro a thread from the last page with spam in it and keep doing it every so often.

If this thread isn't put in the HoF, at the very least it should go in the spam section.

AS A GLOBAL MODERATOR IT IS KIND OF MY JOB TO READ AS MANY OF THE TOPICS THAT CAN CONTAIN SPAM, NO? IF I'D IGNORE TOPICS THAT MAY CONTAIN SPAM, THEN I'D DO A PRETTY BAD JOB AT BEING A MODERATOR, NO?

ALSO CAPS LOCK IS COOL.
