There is no good reason to reduce the timeout on post editing. Having the option to allows people to revise their posts when they later discover that they have made a statement in error, or if they later wish to add onto a post (say they found a really juicy link) without double posting- which they'd promptly get bitched at for because folks hate double posters. And let's not forget the greatest single reason (IMHO) to have an edit feature: dumb fucks who don't know how to type. Case in point- read above. Yes, people abuse the edit feature to take back things that they've said in order to deny that they ever said them to begin with- and to that I can only answer that there are plenty of people who abuse the option to post by spamming up the forums with pointless drivel. Changing the edit feature would have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the amount of dumbfuckery that goes on around here.
On a somewhat related note: current usage rules for the English language state that every word in a sentence need not be capitalized. Somebody needs to use the edit button more.
