I think that they might think we can take care of it ourselves, but I could be wrong.

I voted 1 week... mainly because they do lock topics, but the topic would get out of control, for about a week, then after 50 + pages, and when it starts settling down, a moderator would lock it... >.>

Hey, I'll be the first to admit I don't get around to reading EVERY topic, so not everything is caught. If you feel there is something that NEEDS to be moderated, and its not dealt with, report it. That's what the button is for.
I am back in school at the moment, so the only times I do have to check are breaks between classes and don't have the time to sit and read every post of every thread. However if something shows up as being reported then I know where to go and, assuming I have the time, fix it.

Most thread topics last a very long time. Up to weeks. I think that's plenty time. You seen how many pages there are in each of them? It's until the 60th page, and when it settles down, one of you mods lock it.... >.>

So? The length of a thread has no bearing on whether or not it should remain open. Locking a topic is simply because we do not want more posts in it. Why should it matter if a topic reaches even 100 pages? I didn't realize reaching that many pages broke a forum rule...

I think it's just not clear what reasons are for topic locking, hence people don't know when to report a topic. I usually don't report topics for closing as it seems to me closing only happens in case of warez or WAY too blatant spam (smth like the topic blazer closed not long ago). Other than that, there seems to be no locks for flaming, topic hijacking, ...

Depends to the extent and type involved. If a topic is the victim of an attempt of hijacking, it can recover itself. In that case, there is no point in locking it. The same goes if people don't have an issue with it (lots of topics lead from the original discussion to a related one without the need to forcibly stop it - this topic being one of those. Technically it has been hijacked by us going off on this unrelated tangent. However because of what is being discussed, there is no real reason to lock it as of now).
As for flaming, its unclear, I will admit that. Sometimes the flaming is done in fun, or is a byproduct of something that even the administration thinks is bad.
When in doubt, though, report it. If it is something that should be dealt with, then it will be dealt with, or at least monitored for a while to see if it continues.

Thinking about what i did yesterday, please forgive me. It was my first time. Now this thread was posted recently so i am clear to post my opinion. I really hate flaming and bad words, personally.There are best ways to build a serious dialog rather than verbal offence, in the Internet world like in the real world.
