Been around since the multiplayer demo, played the game flat out for over a year then left when it started to die. I just installed it again a couple of weeks ago for a bit of fun this game will always be a favourite!

A friend told me about signups for the beta test in November 2001. He said "Ever play C&C? They have a beta test signup tomorrow."... So I signed up, was chosen for Phase 1 of the beta. I loved the game, so did my brother. I was pretty active in the beta test forum.

I bought the game about 2 days after it came out (there wasn't a huge priority to buy it since the beta servers were still up but I wanted to play in off-hours). I became pretty active in the General forums after that. (My user number was 859 I think)

I started n00bstories.com when a thread started where people were writing a bunch of their stories. I offered to make a site for us to store stories and vote on them. People liked the idea, and hence n00bstories.com was born.

In February 2003, EA announced the Westwood Studios was going to be closed down and Virtual Ted (one of the top Westwood guys) posted for people to volunteer to take over hosting the Official Forums. Many sites applied and it eventually came down to n00bstories or RenEvo. I bought the renegadeforums.com domain and told everyone that if I ran the forums, they would be separate from the n00bstories site and wouldn't have the same staff. Obviously I ended up being chosen and the rest is history. Smile

Oh yeah, and a little bit of history for those who haven't been around as long... Blazer and I met right on these very forums (while Westwood still ran them)... isn't it a strange twist of fate that we now run them? Smile

I'm the bawss.

I guess since about 3-4 months before the public beta, although I wasn't in the beta.

I've been here a while, but I never knew that you two met on these forums. I had always guessed at you two knew each other and the both of you loved this game.

No. Blazer fell in love with Crimson online and eventually he flew over to meet her after he broke up with his old girlfriend.

And the rest is history.

I have been here sense the beginning. I remember the WS forum thred that started n00bstories, and remember ACK when he was Aircraftkiller2001 from the RA2 forums (he was a good RA2/YR map maker too).

[Trivia question...who made the first banner for n00bstories.com?]

I rememember Dev and all the fun we had in his "house". I was not a beta tester, but I got the game when it came out, and was a memeber of the WS forums before that.

This is a great game, and as long as there are servers for me to play on...I will be here.

Member number ~1700 on the forums when WS ran them.

Good lord, I'm beginning to feel nostalgic...

Ah, the great events that shocked and dazzled the Renegade community...

I don't know the dates, but someone can put it in chronological order, most likely the [EoE] members.

- Renegade Revolutions announced.
- Westwood shut down by Electronic Arts.
- Revolutions closed, Evolutions begun
- n00bstories opens its first AOW server
- Death of Trey Dornieden, best known as [DOM]TreyD
- Breakdown of Dominion Guild, birth of Forces of Diversion.
- Havocman Spazz captured on TeamSpeak, possibly one of the funniest moments in Renegade history.
- Death of Lynne Stevenson, known as Lynne6000 in WOL, also known as Aircraftkiller's girlfriend.
- Open beta of RenAlert announced, followed by patches which marked Renegade Alert as a totally separate game.
- First cheaters caught, cheats begin invasion of WOL servers.
- Renguard announced in progress, a program to stop cheaters from entering servers protected by Renguard.
- Breakdown of Forces of Diversion, birth or End of Evolution.
- Blackhand Studios announced, consisting of some of the greatest minds the Renegade community has to offer.
- Petroglyph Studios announced, consisting of ex-Westwood employees.
- Lynne Stevenson returns, proclaiming that her siter had faked her death.
- Renguard released.

Feel free to add the dates or add other events I forgot.

EDIT: I just had a thought. I believe that these forums are going to be the birthplace of something extraordinary. Blackhand Studios IS going to be the next big thing, as Aircraftkiller already implied that they have the Renegade source code to work with. Plus, with Renegade Alert getting better by the day, and Reborn showing obvious signs of improvement, it is in my humble opinion that something very big will happen in less than a year.

Oh I have been around awhile.

Long enough to remember the frustration of not being able to register on the boards, and only be able to watch in vain....

I also remember trying to get into HS way back, and the frustration of Beacon-Leave exploits, as well as the giddiness of the flying patch coming out with those two extra maps. Surprised

And then there was that whole -WL- thing....

I also remember when Shane the pain established the pitts as a response to the beacon-leave, and asked for a core group of members to help report, and moderate a clean server. I was one of those founding members. Think I was #6 or so. I haven't been back since it turned into a huge site.

I remember Raveshaw, and Duke ruining many a topic....

And I remember Blazer's Dusty Black car.......

Yeah, I have been around a while.

Yeah,
I recognize most of you ol farts!

My college roommate, BRUUPO, introduced me to Renegade on his rig, and it was the first FPS I had ever played. I was alread 30 years old and never really played computer games.
I went out and bought a computer JUST to play Renegade! To this day it is the only FPS game I play, and the primary reason for my comp at home.
The original Renegade Forums were the first forum boards I had ever visited.

I guess you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks.

PS: Hello to those of you I havent seen in a long long time.

Remember when other forum folks could "rank" you? LOL.
Remember when running backwards to the ob was the biggest cheat in the game? LOL.
Remember when nodmama and blkwasp were the only couple who played?

Yes, ranking was one of the features I wish i could have implemented when you all moved over here. I certainly don't forget spending two straight days modifying a phpBB template to look like our old home.

Then there was R. Daneel Olivaw, a short lived disliked member... PlanetShaun.co.ck, Devinoch, Dirty Delphi Sex (and many variations)... PlanetShaun.co.uk who had to put >> in front of any topic he started ... The Aircraft beta where ACK and I started the "shoot another building with your buggy when you rush another" tactic and won like 3 maps in a row. (and the birth of "ownage, plain and simple")

Oh, what else... EARepSegue, TOS violations, "ANTI" which was an anti-n00b club similar to NFD....

I'm the bawss.

I don't remember ANTI. I do remember the whole thing about -WL-.

I remember one time there was this HUGE LONG thread debating against 2 clans. It was -WL- and i THINK it was HoA or AoA. I don't remember...I was reading a little bit from it a few months ago, I somehow found a few sheets that I printed off to read it.

Edit: I also remember [AoA]Emperor. What ever happened to him? He still here? I never really paid as much attention as I could have.

-WL- was the number one clan for like 3 months in a row when Renegade first came out. It was mostly comprised of beta testers like myself. There wasn't really a clan that DIDN'T hate us! Smile

what was that one long thread that lasted for about 10 or so pages where you guys were fighting with another clan, or was it two or so clans?

I remember when I was an actual forum n00b. Back on the Official Renegade Forums when Westwood was still running.

I had no idea what the purpose of the forums were for. So I spammed my way to 800+ post. I'd be surprised of anyone remembers that. I'd be surprised if any one even remembers me.
