There is always that slim chance that it wasn't him. If you remember a few years ago(I'm not sure if Jelly had the problem or not), but there were at least two incidences of a person using another persons IP. Back in MP it was done one time when our admin(Strike) was in IRC, and "Strike" with his IP joined the game. He flipped the heck out, and wasn't faking that lol.

The other, was when TheBeerinator claimed that one shifty fucker of using his IP too somehow. Idk, just throwing out conjecture.
Thinking back on that episode, liquid, and what transpired during/after...it could have been someone else doing it.

The IP was definitely the same IP as what MDK was currently using. I do remember that bit of it.

To this day, I still refute the claims that MDK cheated. He might be many things, but he certainly isn't a cheater. Plus if he was/is I doubt MPF would trust him so much, he certainly appears to be doing a good job over there or so I am told. Razz

I never did get the impression that MDK cheated but his behaviour was always weird.

I don't think Iran cheats either, but I do believe he is a bit of a troll at times. I don't think he deserves to be banned for it considering there is no proof of him cheating. I do agree that it is giving MPF relatively bad publicity but it doesn't appear to be having any effect on their player base. It's been said many times before, it is their decision to ban who they want and when they want for whatever reason they see fit.

Im not too sure whether I just dont enjoy Anime anymore or whether its just I dont have time really to shit and watch it.

Lets agree to disagree and send him to NoobStories.

It has been having an effect on their player count and you're not the only one who's reluctant to play on their server now in fear for getting randomly banned.

Nope, its not, infact MPF is a much more peacefull and cheaterfree Place since he was removed. our Playercount is doing extremly good, having around ~60 Players on frome time to time. it is all good and we made the correct decision to remove him. 1 less troll Smile

That logic makes no sense. Not playing somewhere in order to not get randomly banned. That implies self-banning, so that they cannot maybe ban you. Not joining because of fear of being banned has the same effect as being banned. Only difference is that the chances of getting banned are still incredibly slim.

I've got a bit of footage from a field game from earlier this morning, nothing that interesting. I went 100-6, was playing a bunch of games yesterday that went pretty well but i couldnt record cause it was too laggy. in all my videos you can see mouse lag and it's pretty annoying.

I'm a bit done with playing reborn i think and I guess I'll play some more renegade now, hopefully i can get a good field game recorded, the previous field games i've played have mostly been snipers hugging in their base with a ton of snipers on my team in tunnel or tanks camping tunnel :/

You're not the only one. It seems their player base has evaporated within a week of release. They were averaging 45 player games, now there's just five people online.

It is a bit of a shame, IMO. The game is ok and I enjoyed playing it for a while (as johnym, in case I met anybody online). They obviously put a lot of effort into it. I loved playing that beachside inf only map.

They did a good job on bringing some of the TS gameplay elements - I remember harasing the GDI harvesters with a DT a couple of times, MSGs near the tiberium field to protect Nod's harvesters, MLRS assaults from water and Cyborg APC rushes to name a few.

It feels dated, however - like a "Renegade++", instead of a game on its own. Gameplay doesn't feel very streamlined as well and weird at times.
A few things off the top of my head are: Construction Yards are like "just another building" to protect. Balancing is odd with JJs going everywhere (I remember someone called them "the best aircraft" once) and being difficult to kill and Ion Storms don't really affect much, except stealth. The spy knife thing is weird, I still don't get the Engineer medkit and the GDI SAM guy was pointless every time I tried playing as him. It is a 10+ year old engine, indeed, but I hope it goes in a different direction with the patches and all.

Renegade has very little players left, so reborn is more than probably going to follow suit, still, its something a lot of people put time and effort into and it was probably still fun a fun project to develop

When I still ran the project (2003-2006), releases regularly had full servers. I distinctly recall having two 50 player servers at one point and having to wait to get into both of them for quite a while.

I played Reborn and tried to give it a fair chance, but I really didn't enjoy it. It didn't feel like TS at all. Tossing in TS units (which really don't look all that great considering the way they've been animated) into a big sandy map doesn't scream TS to me. The biggest thing missing was fun. It really just isn't fun at all. It feels like a chore, like I'm forcing myself to keep playing it instead of wanting to enjoy what I'm playing.

I uninstalled it two days after release and haven't really considered putting it back. As I've said in the server, it felt like a pre-alpha. Lots of bugs with graphics, such as Umagon being completely unlit. She looks like she was painted with MS Paint. There's like no skin detail that I could see. She was half-burqa and half generic-yellowish-tan color. Stretched out textures are a frequent issue with the maps. The textues look muddy and undetailed quite frequently, and I still see a lot of Renegade textures for all the crowing about it being a "game". It's obviously still a mod, and one that will hopefully get a lot more work put into it.

I think my #1 issue with it is the lack of TS atmosphere. The environment of Earth at that point is choking noxious fumes with dying vegetation and few livable outdoor spaces. The sun is always covered by clouds and there's a dank fog everywhere. In Reborn, it's the opposite. It's very bright, there's no discernable atmosphere and the fog is non-existent from the several maps I played. It just looked like a Renegade mod with some new units added to it, and a lot of maps with detail added in places players rarely go (Tiberium stuff underneath bridges, for example) with bare mountain tunnels and a huge amount of Renegade's grating texture all over the floor. I'd like to figure out how my very heavy vehicle is capable of driving over gratings that are 25 feet wide and over 500 feet long, with absolutely nothing supporting the grating except for a trench underneath it.

These issues bug me. I'm sure someone else would find better things to complain about, but I hate seeing maps being developed like this when there's so many better examples of how to create modern game levels. You can't call yourself a game and then not hold yourself up to industry standards. Posting this stuff at Polycount would get it ripped apart.

I'd like to see them succeed. I just hope the attitude improves. I played incognito several times and voiced concerns in-game only to be called an idiot by Chronojam, and had people tell me that I don't know anything about games. I'd beg to differ considering my degree field and the fact that I make video games for the US Army for a living. If Reborn can take criticism and improve from what's been critiqued, I imagine they'll do well - assuming the player base ever sticks with it. This game (Renegade) is essentially dead. I have more people online right now in my fleet in Star Trek Online than Reborn has in all of their servers combined. Renegade's essentially unknown to over 98% of video gamers and the ones that do play probably don't care about mods for it.

@Mad_Ivan: Yeah I played with you a fair bit. I was also the one who made the "JJ best aircraft" comment as a joke. Razz

I agree with ACK that the game is a "chore" to play, it also feels kinda directionless with large maps and virtually all units take ages to kill, infantry weapons for the most part feel wonky and weird unit balance. I've lost the count of times I'm at the front of the enemy's team base and I then I hear one of my buildings been attacked just for no one being able to defend it because they're in field and there are 3 enemy infantry in the building.

Hope they'll work on improving it. It was really fun to play (except for a bunch of trolls who didn't get muted) but I can't see myself playing it any longer than I have now, it's already getting old.

Improvement is a relative term. If they avoid using "tech levels" that periodically unlock items in-game, I imagine there's a decent chance that the mod will sustain some players in the future. If they implement them, though, I think it's a safe wager to speculate that Reborn would end up with an average of two players by the end of the year.

One thing I'm left wondering is why they're putting any effort into this old engine when they have perfectly capable programmers who can learn something like Unreal, CryTek, et al. Like it or not, the trend in gaming is toward free games and mobile games. This mod is free, but it lacks the finesse that even an Android game has. I've got several Android games on my HTC One that are more visually impressive than Reborn is, along with being a lot more fun to play.

There's a lot of programming that needs to be done to support C&C mode in the Unreal engine AFAIK and they'd actually need to re-do all their maps and higher the quality of their assets I assume. Tons of work. Easier for a fan project to use an engine that also *somewhat* supports what they need to do with it for the most part.

Maybe you can shed some more light into this cause you have experience with modding and if I recall the Unreal engine. What's your assessment of how feasible coding is and transferring all their assets?

I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. I will say that I am currently working on a game (Under EULA not to disclose what it is or what it's about until sometime in the near-future, hopefully) and that the programmers working with Unity have gotten the initial stages of the project laid down within a few weeks. There's really no reason why they should stick with Renegade at this point. It's becoming rather disingenuous to call their mods "games" when the code of the mods relies on Renegade to operate with the only modification being changes in scripts.dll that everyone can run. By that logic, any map using scripts.dll is now a "game". It's a silly watering-down of the word to the lowest common denominator.

You don't have to create upgraded graphics for UDK. It's possible to make artwork with the same quality as Renegade but in a modern engine. If they chose to take advantage of newer engines, they've got plenty of documentation and people willing to help. I fear at this point that staying in complete obscurity with Renegade has pretty much killed any chance of moving beyond it for them, though.
