I am so very curious here at year ten when you got into Renegade and what made Ren a distinctive experience over the 10 gazillion other FPS that have come and gone.

I'll start:

2002 - General Release
Ren's story, the tight community, destructible bases and the ability to go lone wolf and win a game were key for me.

Most commonly known nick: KIRBY098

I have never ever had an issue that the graphics were less than perfect, the reality factor low or that support was missing.

December 2005 i got it in a Command and Conquer set for Christmas. I didn't start playing til after the new year though in 2006 hence the "06" in my name.

Fell in love from that moment on even though I had no clue of what i was doing being like 13 years old. I have not stopped playing and it got more exciting with each new thing I found (TS, Forums, Clan Wars) and just making friends with people as I play to make the game more fun!

I started playing when the game came out, but only started playing online since early 2004.

That brings up another interesting thing about ren that I never stopped to consider.

I never really had any interest in online gaming until it came out. Prior to this online westwood games were crud. (Sole survivor or engi rush TS anyone? Angry )

Now that I think of it, one of this game's "features" is either a super skilled lone wolf or team coordination to break through defense with a liberal application of luck that no one is in the buildign you enter.

It was almost a secondary game once you survived the trip there, then entered to plant c4 and avoid being killed.

Game designers take note...

I played some casual comp stomp games with random players (and my nephew) on RA2 online, but Renegade was the game that really got me hooked to online gaming.

the first time i play a computer game, it was whit tiberian sun and since then i start to dream of how it would be seeing it in first person view, renegade was already out by then but i find out when the TFD came out, then i fall in love.

I tossed the envelope, but I kept the beta disc. I also have my Renegade t-shirt. Not sure if anyone else has one of those, since it's just a gray t-shirt with the Renegade logo embroidered in light silver on the left breast.

Good replies so far and an interesting data population to date. I truly expected to see a heavier weighting at the release date for "The first decade", and certainly didn't expect as many betas as there seem to be.

Hopefully they will throw a .jpg up showing the beta bling.

I was inspired to reload ren into my newer win 7 machine this week and finally got it running after spending a good amount of time finding the latest scripts 4, CP2 and XWIS /Strike Team registration. I think dental surgery would have been more pleasant, but now it's done and I am back in.

Played the campaign in 2002, but started playing online when I got a broadband connection which was 2 years later.

So I voted for 2004.

Yeah that was an interesting time. We had just got DSL where I lived when I started playing. A lot of people back then had serious latency issues as the net started getting seriously rolled out.
