Hello everyone I am a new member to the forum and this is my first post here. I have been a longtime fan of renegade. I have not played it for a few years. One day while in the basement cleaning I found the CD's for renegade. That when the cravings and sleepless nights came back...lol  I have been trying to get this game in play for close to 6 hours. Now let me be the first to tell you that I really am not smart with computers. So I might ask a few more questions than the average user. If you could dumb things down for me that would be great.
I have installed and uninstalled this game probably 5 or 6 times today. I first started out just skimming threw the fourms and downloading whatever I was able to find. bad idea. Eventually i found the "Install in 9 steps" thread. I tried to follow this thread several times with no luck. But like I said I am not good at computers and i believe my troubleshooting just made things worse.
I decided to set up a new user account on my pc and start from scratch. I have successfully installed all the patches which i was unable to do before. I also installed the 3.4.4 update that was in the step. and i can successfully open the renegade game without getting the black screen that never wants to go away.
I went to the multiplayer, westwood, than advance game listing and I cannot find to any servers. Basically nothing comes up it says no "servers can be found". I also downloaded renguard but it does not pop up when i click on renegade like it did in one of my previous attempts. I know renguard serves a purpose for anti-cheat but Do i need rearguard to get to the servers?
Does anyone have any ideas on what my problem could be.
How do i register a user name to renegade?
Is there anything else I can do to get this game to work.
Plz help...

Have you ever shared your serial code with anyone else? If so and they got themselves banned from XWIS then you will also be banned and will need a new serial code to reconnect.
Generally you will only be banned from XWIS for attacking or abusing the XWIS network, for example using it to page spam servers.

You did buy the game and not simply torrent it and used a serial included, right?
It's quite clear your serial is banned. The solution to this is to buy a new game/serial.

Yeah, you'll need to get a new serial, whether or not it was you that caused the ban.
Anyway, for future reference, to register a nick with XWIS, all you do is enter a name and password as if you were logging in. If that name isn't already taken, you will be able to see the server list and that name is yours. If it is already taken, you'll get another error in the window like the one that told you your serial was banned.
Also, only get your maps from reputable sites, like game-maps.net.
Oh man, I just checked the game-maps site again and they changed the layout. It now looks like a domain squatting page, but it's fine.
