What also works in some older games if compatibility isn't enough is the following:

1. Open taskmanager
2. Close 'explorer.exe' process
3. Run game
4. ...
5. Profit!

IMO it's pretty clear;
Running in compatibility mode and as admin does not work.

Probably the same as without compatibility mode. Same happened to me with WWP. (which I solved using my steps above)

EDIT: You can put those steps in a batch-file to automate the process Wink

Ah you have 64-bit.
Then it's obvious it won't work. 64-bit windows versions do no longer support 16-bit applications, which Tiberian Dawn & Red Alert 1 are Dont Get It

That also means my solution won't work as this doesn't change anything about that.

The only way to play it now is to run it in an virtualized (or dual-boot) 32-bit environment. (or 16-bit ofcourse Razz )

As stated before, If you're using any 64bit OS you will not beable to run a 16bit program.

See Omar007,

It wasn't just it no doesn't work so, I think I had a right to say What you mean no.

What version of dawn and RA1 are you running? EA released free versions of these games compatible with newer computers. Are you using those?

If that doesn't help you, you'll need to either run an older windows 32 bit version as virtual machine, or use dosbox. D fend reloaded (http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/) works great, but it's not very easy to master, IMO. I run D fend with win 3.11 and play my 16-bit games on there Wink.

What I don't think anybody else noticed is that only the setup files are 16-bit. I've had that problem with many old programs. The actual games, however, are - you guessed it - 32-bit (excepting the one that is actually specified as DOS of course). If you can get the game installed, then you'll be able to run it. But you'll have to figure that one out on your own, because I never could get around that.

I figured a way to install it but the issue now is.
RA95.EXE - Entry Point Not Found
"the procedure entry point SMapLS_IP_EBP_12 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

Problem solved with red alert:
to get this to work simply use these instructions
and use the Red Alert Setup Manager v0.98 tool.

also your going to need to use C&C gold XP patch
run the game in compatability mode for 98/me and it should work fine

the freeware version is required

edit:

Tiberian Dawn solved as well:
this is even more simple

just download and use this
Then use the C&C gold XP patch

and lastly if you are using windows 7 64 bit you MUST have these EXACT settings in compatibility mode or the game will keep kicking back to the desktop.

index.php?t=getfile&id=13014&private=0

edit 2: if your having inverted color problems just have the screen resolution page in control panel open in the background
