Quick play no longer works. Via advanced game listing you get the list of servers. If you join big servers, you'll just disconnect because your dial connection is too slow to handle the information you're getting. Try joining in a server with 10 players max.
Putting up your own server will not attract any player, you're better off trying to join an existing one.

this sounds like a problem i had a year or so ago do you have the patch? is the Westwood online Shared internet components installed with renegade installation? do you have correct maps? im currently looking for the post i made about something similar..
edit: I found the post and remember what i had seen but did not explain on the forums what i did was reinstalled the game using these steps sorry if this does not work but it is what i had to do when i encountered this

area so i make my own....and then once i get there it says "GAMEPLAY PENDING" and it never goes away! and while it's doing that i cannot move, or shoot or anything!
