That's bullshit. I've removed countless Reborn leaks, leaks of other mods, people's private information (such as phone numbers, real names), etc. over the years. It's only now that NS has become a victim that all of sudden I'm "biased".

Hmm. I wasn't considering them.

Tushe, I suppose.

Edit:
I do tend to agree with what Zimmer said (lol). I can personally see two roles here. One is a role of concern and security, the other is just the flaunting of show-offy power.

If someone is to be involved in an info leak, the info would most effectively be spread through faster means, such as an IM.. not a PM on a forum, especially a forum were the admin is also an admin of what the leak pertains to.

Wouldn't it be more effective to punish said people by revoking a more effective privilege? What exactly is revoking PMs going to do other than start a bunch of stupid debates that get a bunch of ignorant bystanders, like myself, involved?

(I'm about to get flamed from the other side for saying that, but that's how I feel the punishment should be dealt.

I wasn't trying to flaunt or show off. If I had wanted to do that, I would have made a public spectacle with the list of who I removed access for. THEY made it a spectacle. I was being subtle.

Read the rule again:

Quote:

Private Messaging: Due to the inability to screen private messages, your ability to use them may be temporarily disabled if you are suspected to be involved or closely related to the violation of any of forum rules.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Without the ability to read them, (and the fact that I find that to be a breach of privacy that I do not wish to commit), the removal of private message PRIVILEGES may have to occur while a leak is still active.

So if I understand it right you either block some peoples PM's at random? Or if I read the rules right, you should disable the PM system while a leak is active.

Anyway, for what time is a leak active then? I mean, if exodus counts as an active leak then that's fine, but please elaborate.

Yeahhhh, why don't I just help the group who stole from me spread their ill-gotten gains? You could only imagine what else they have. They have already admitted to stealing my player IP database on their way out the door as well. Want me to let them spread that too?

I'm the bawss.

Crimson, don't get me wrong please, I don't agree with any kind of stealing. I just want to know when and how you will apply the rules. I feel that you haven't really answered my question.
Why do you think that taking PM rights will solve anything? Of course, if they would be spreading the information on this forum I have to agree with you, but personally I would either do it in public, so that everyone knows, or I would not take the risk and use IM/mail/IRC...

So that brings me to the question why PMs? and that brings me to the question, for how long? I mean, I haven't heard much about Exodus/NS leaking/bitch fights besides you in some way trying to get revenge on Exodus. I haven't seen them leaking anything on this forum for a while. So when would you not consider the leak active any more?
When none talks about Exodus anymore? That won't happen till the community dies and judging from their determination, that won't be any time soon.

Another thing which seems to happen is that you're getting more and more people against you with your kind of dictator-leadership on Renf. At least, that's what I'm judging from the amount of servers that delinked from irc.ns.com.

I think that it is very important for you and renf, Crimson, to not get too furious about this and that you try to separate your roles as NS admin and RenF admin. I know you're paying for both, but let it be clear that I wouldn't mind donating some for RenF if it where possible and if I would know for certain that it would be used for RenF and not NS. Also I would like to have the feeling that users could have some input on how it would be ru

Okay, you can shove that one up your ass.

I was the one that did that, not Exodus, just me, and I refuse to let you cast the blame on anyone but me. I already apologized for it and did infact delete it as I said. I of course didn't expect you to accept my apology, nor believe that I did truly delete the database, because that'd be surrendering some of your ammunition. But I no longer have it, regardless of what you think.

I'd be glad to show you our currently broken IPbot (written in mIRC using hash tables, which is definitely not the same as MySQL) if you really think Exodus has your IP database. I already acknowledged that dumping that database was wrong, regardless of my intentions, and sincerely apologized for it (I highly doubt you don't have that post saved in your little archive). It's fine if you didn't accept it, but you're not going to use that to drag Exodus' name through the mud any more than you have. I have no problem with you attempting to take shots at ME for that, but I won't let you do that to Exodus, because it had nothing to do with them.

Wow...

We are what, three pages into this topic, Crimson, and you still fail to address the purpose of this thread. You have still not given a reason (much less a valid reason) why Chew and I (and Sterps, for that matter) have had our PM priv's revoked. Chew is not involved with the exodus community at all, he plays there once in awhile. I had not even returned to Renegade until after the Exodus split.

Your entire reasoning that you have disabled ppl's PMs because they may be "leaking information" is total bullshit. Why? Because Chew and I have (As I have said twice before on this very thread) leaked NOTHING. Instead, the most logical thing to assume is that you are again abusing your admin powers on this forum, and revoking the PM privs of people you dislike.

Instead of restarting the flamewar about how Exodus broke from n00bstories, because I think everyone has had their fill of it, why not stay on topic and give a valid explanation for why ppl have had the PM priv's revoked.

Thanks.

We are suspected of conspiracy to commit said leakage, which is a terrible crime, and so our PM's being removed is to prevent us from communicating and further advancing in our crimes. Listen Sarcasm

I was the one who took screenshots of those "supposedly" private forums. "Supposedly" because what we discussed there is the reason behind the exodus, nothing else. There may be sensitive data in a private thread that people wouldn't want to make public, and I can agree with it, but in that thread that didn't happened, it was "simply" an heated discussion where all mods and admins blamed 2 persons for their mistakes, and I've only seen 1 of those 2 persons complaining about leaking that (if luv2pb complained too then I might have missed it, and anyway it wouldn't change the point), and of course that person is the one that we blamed in those threads. I knew that all that happened after the exodus would have happened, that's why I took those screenshots, to counter whatever lie any of those 2 persons would have spread with absolutely clear facts. That happened in the past with other people already, so I took my precautions.
Now I can understand that she doesn't like the idea of any of us spreading those information, but even removing PM privileges here wouldn't stop that. I never used PM to spread that stuff, nor is my intention to do so, but idk about egoflux (he's the one that made that page telling the story, with my screenshots in it), I'll let him speak if he wants to (he's very busy with life lately so I don't think he'll post here at all).
It's not because I don't want to spread that information that I won't use PM, but because I would rather do it publicly than privately.
Whoever asked me about that page, I gave them the link and let them spread it with their friends, but in our IRC/forums, not here nor in ns's forums.

My point in all of this is that it's very easy to say that those information were private when only 1 or 2 persons out of all the involved ones wants that kept private. It's an easy way out to keep people away from reading that stuff. You might agree with her because you can only see the sentence "private information", but if you were us, you wouldn't see it that way. Do you really expect so many people leaving NS without saying a word about it? Letting her say "lol they are jelos my party so they left us" in her IRC to people who was wondering why we left that place and other assorted lies without doing anything?
And what about all those mods that weren't there when we left, that came back to find NOTHING in NS's forums about our leaving (they moved all the threads in their private section that only her and luv can see), and she told them her invented story about the exodus (but calling us faildus obviously), so that now we have people who once we were close friends with, turned to people that thinks that we are the assholes.

Fortunately most people aren't dumb, that's why many mods later decided to come listen to our side of the story, and eventually chose to stay with us.

You can probably blame only me and egoflux (me for taking screenshots and him for compiling that nice page with the story) about all of this, but seriously...I don't even think we are to blame. This is a consequence. Just a consequence.

OK, blah blah blah... get the information offline, keep it in your private forums, and we won't have any problem. I fiercely protect the privacy of my staff. They post in our private forums assuming that whatever they say will remain within the intended audience and not strewn about the internet. I will do whatever is within my power to stop it, even if it's not possible. If that makes me a bad person, then so be it. But I'm sure the people who I'm protecting don't think so.

That's the last I'm going to say on this matter, so you can keep talking amongst yourselves if you wish.

Since I've never seen the leaked info nor do I know much about what was leaked, maybe this might help clarify something:

Are all the people who have their PMs blocked a member of the n00bstories forum? If so, were those people, all of them, involved with posting in the thread in question?

If they were, then Crimson's actions actually make a lot more sense now. Because since there was a leak of that thread, a leak to which she didn't know the source, it would make sense to block the PM permissions of everyone who took part in the thread until the leak issue passed.

Also, if that is how it is, then I fail to understand the difficulty in explaining it to everyone so they understand.

If that isn't how it is, then I'm still at a loss.

Not all of them, but the majority were. SoQRadio nor Chew weren't even playing Renegade until after all this occurred so I don't really know why they're blocked, but whatever.

Well.. frankly, how many PMs would you expect on this forum if you had the privileges anyway?

The only time I ever get PMed is if someone deletes one of my posts, someone randomly comes out of the blue to comment me, or if I am setting up private downloads for a map I'm working on.

Erm yeah you are infact correct, but that also depends on the people you talk to lol. I know there's some people that PM all the time. Personally, I don't use it much, but I can see several messages in the control panel waiting for my input clear as day. That's the only real reason it bothers me.
