Although I doubt anyone has reported on it, what with Michael Jackson dead and all

From what I understand, she announced she wasn't running for re-election, and then concluded that there's no point in remaining in office as a lame duck and resigned outright. Bad excuse, or worst excuse?

Sure, and OJ was found not guilty.

The question is, why is she resigning? I don't believe for a second it's just to save Alaska money, because resigning won't stop the lawsuits, and her reasoning of not wanting to be a lame duck is rivaled only by "It wasn't me cheating, it was my brother". It doesn't speak to anything but having something to hide.

She's resigning because she's a politician who wants to promote herself in hopes of making it into higher office.

Don't think for one second I like her, but I don't think she's a crook; instead I just think she's a moron.

Right, but generally speaking holding some kind of office tends to help you get the higher position. Quitting halfway through your first term as governor doesn't look good on any resume. She would have been better off staying, if she was after a higher office.

Well, I'm not too familiar with your system, but in quite a few cases, politicians in ours will give up their 'seat' when they make a run for prime minister, head to the senate, or get involved with crown corporations.

I just see it as a way for her to travel, and meet n' greet people in her party, build connections, and build up momentum in the grassroots.

On the other hand, maybe she was just really soured by the whole experience after the last election, and wanted out. We probably won't know until the campaigning for 2012 ramps up.

It must be different in Canada. Here in the US, politicians only "give up" their office once they're already elected. Obama was a senator up until the moment he was sworn in.

Really, she's just doing her political self harm. She would have a much easier time traveling and doing meet-n-greets as a governor, since she would have an excuse to travel (She's done a few, since the election).

Even if she just wanted out of politics, it would've been best to wait for her term to expire to avoid two separate rounds of questionings (One now, one in 2012). Although I suppose if that was her goal, she timed it fairly well. With the death of MJ, the news has hardly given any attention to her.

She's been cleared of 13 charges by the independent State Personnel Board and of another complaint by the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

So what's the outstanding one? The one by the woman who was upset that Palin wore a jacket from the company that sponsor's her husband's snowmobiling?

I'm surprised that's even being looked into, because it's so frivolous; in fact, quite a few of them are pretty moronic, and seem to be character assassination. I'm surprised the trivial complaints are being investigated at all.

who cares??

Honestly are you people that bored that you have to carry on about why someone quit office. If this were a female democrat doing the same thing I doubt you all or the press would give a shit.

If it was any major politician (Major being a tentative term here, but she more or less got the status during the election) of any party, I would say it's worthy of note. Politicians don't up and quit their jobs (Not just not run for re-election, but outright resign) for no (good) reason, female or not. Speaking of which, why bring her gender into this? I don't think it's relevant to the conversation at all.

I know you're a Palin fan, DarkKnight, but I'm sure even you can see past your rose-tinted glasses and see there's something fishy here.

Maybe she's just tired of the bullshit and wants to go live her life in peace with her family but then you wouldn't have something to talk about so it has to be something more devious.

Shows what you know. I didn't like her, didn't like mccain, dont like obama. I think their all part of the corrupt machine running this country and we need a new party.

Maybe, but if that was her reason, why wouldn't she just say so, instead of this bullshit "no lame duck" junk?

And if that was the case, why did she choose politics in the first place?!

maybe she didn't want to take a pay check and be running for other things. maybe shes being swept away by aliens coming soon. maybe she wanted to fly around the world in 80 days.

Again back to my original point. Who cares? Why do you care so much? That bored got nothing else to do?

Anyway I'm done here, not spending any more time pondering why she quit her job.
