Ok so I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Before I reformatted I had XP and Vista(2 os) on my PC. I had XP on it first for a while and had no problem with Ren. So I install my second OS (Vista Ultimate) and install Ren With no problem at all. Now that I reformatted (only 1 OS now) Vista Ultimate). I go and install, Agree To the Agreement, Put my CD Key in, Install 3 Components, Give the Dir where i want Ren to install in.. Then I get to here.. First SS leads to the Second SS. I've also tried many other names to put in that box "Renegade" "W3stw00d" they all didn't work! I ran the setup.exe as an Administrator.

WONT LET ME PAST THIS! Notice how the box above Westwood is blank? Usually it shows the Start > All Programs > (Program Folders).

Please HELP! THX!

Did you run the installer in administrator mode? Since it's not listing existing folders I suspect it doesn't have permission to read the relevant folders.

Yea I auto run the disc, then it ask(RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR) I say YES. Yea, I think the rest of the .exe in the ren disc probably arn't allowed do anything(even install and perform correctly). How would i Disable this Administrator mode for a bit so i can install Ren? or is there any way around this?

I suppose you did try changing the install dir to a different one? Did you try creating the directory yourself manually before running the setup?

Yea i tried that. I tried to install ren on my other pc, and I guess my laser in my disc player is going to sit because it wouldn't get past 34%. So not sure how I am going to get an encrypted serial. I tried my friends who play but they won't give me theirs.

Try the Renegade serial number changer application in General Discussion; use version 1.1 found near the end of the topic.

Newayz, I tried to get that program to work, I put in all the correct information

Serial: 9980******************
Directory to install: C:\westwood\renegade
Disc Tray: D

Then I click install, Then it asks am i Sure i want to install in the C:\Westwood\Renegade\ and I say "yes" then it says something about how always.dat and .mix files might take a while to extract so dont reboot your pc if its not responding so i click "ok" then i get this...

*edit for Saberhawk*
Sorry, I didn't know you were talking about it being able to create a encrypted serial in the registry with that serial changer. Should of said it did that in your first reply Razz

I am kthx. It doesn't require the game to be installed in order to use it, and it encrypts your serial number and stashes it in that location in the registry...

Ok, so I had my friend (Blacky) help me out. He said all I need is winrar, so we go into the installation folder in the ren CD and start to extract Game1.cab to C:\Westwood\Renegade folder. Then we installed all the Ren updates, 1.037 patch, cp2, ren scripts. Then I launch game2.exe and have no problems til i get to WESTWOOD ONLINE. It says westwood components not installed, so i go here http://www.renegadeforums.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=330413&rid=0 to find out why, so i get the RenFDS, install the WOL Components, and apply them to the C:\westwood\ Folder (When they are in the Internet Folder). Then i go and run Westwood Online again, this time it doesnt say something about westwood components. I try to login, it says i have invalid serial, so i go to these forums and find the serial changer, i put in my serial, it says serial applied. Then i try westwood again, it says invalid serial again. So i go in my regedit and my renegade folder, and look at my serial, I put in my encrypted serial, and try westwood online again, i get the same problem once again. How would i fix this?

Did you use version 1.1 of the serial changer from near the *end* of the serial changer topic? The one in the opening topic does not work.
