Hello, I'm back again with another probably stupid problem. I had good advice & help here before, so I hope you won't be annoyed with this one...

I recently formatted my desktop. No problems there, installed drivers and all.

Till I get to the point I need to set up my wireless net, I used to have problems to set it up all the time after I formatted my pc, but after messing around a bit, it worked fine.

Now I have no idea how I did it before lol, so my issue here is, when I have to give my WEP key, it says it's wrong or something. Even though I know I have the correct one.

Also, when I try to edit my WEP key in the properties, it keeps another key :S I don't know why, but I need my key of 10 letters because it's in HEX or something.

It changes to less than 10 all the time... even though I don't tick the box with : "automatically assign key".

I have my net working when I turn off WEP security in the router config, but that's asking for problems.

So I ask of you some advice, possibly help, and why does my key in the properties always keeps a pass less than 10 letters...?

The error in the third SS is in Dutch, so I'll try to translate:

"The password of the network must be dependant of the networkconfiguration 40 bits or 104 bits" "You can give the password by giving 5 or 13 ASCII-signs or 10 or 23 hexadecimals signs"

My pass is in HEX, so I give the correct pass, but still won't accept, because it keeps another one, as you can see on the second ss. If I change the other pass, it gives also the error in the third SS.

Here some screens:

I'd really appreciate ANY advice or explination.

I thank you for your time.

I would scrap using WEP keys and just use the MAC Address filtering feature in your router. Be sure to add the routers MAC as well as you will lock yourself out like I have done maybe times before Very Happy

This way only the MACs you assign can get access to the network and you dont have to worry about keys.

Well, I have a PS3 and a laptop, and another pc on this network secured with the same WEP key, so wouldn't that mess everything up? The router's MAC address should be on the router itsself right? So I just write that down, go to my router config, turn off WEP, then I fill in my router's MAC?

And where exactly? Somewhere on the SS?

I'll try that if I've seen other replies, I know the WEP issue can be solved, I did it before lol, only no idea how.

Thanks so far.

To be honest I would try using WPA, WEP is insecure.
MAC address filtering is also insecure, though having MAC address filtering and some form of encryption would be secure.

Don't worry about the key "changing" to a different number of characters. This is normal, and doesn't actually change the key on your machine.

Anyway, do what the others have suggested and switch to WPA with AES encryption. Most devices support this just fine, and it's leaps and bounds more secure than WEP.

Alright, then what should I fill in on this page? This is what I get when I set it to WPA with AES.

Get a random password from this website: https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm copy it into the "RADIUS Shared Key" box, write it down somewhere, you don't need the whole thing 8-12 characters(numbers and letters only) should do.

PS. This is what I do myself it may be a bit troublesome to do but it is fairly secure in my opinion.

Alright, and what do I fill in the other 2 boxes? I just let it be as it is, or do I need to look the info for them somewhere?

Alright, I got it working. I changed to WPA as someone adviced me, but at first I was stuck again because I used WPA enterprise, I needed to use WPA personal lol...

Anyway thanks for that password link and for your time. Smile
