Now that I have Linux installed on my Laptop and USB stick, I though it would be a good idea today to remove it from my desktop computer where it never gets used, and free up another 20GB of space for windows XP.
Before I did that, I restored the MBR as grub didn't have its own partition. After removing the ext3 partition and expanding windoze's ntfs partition to fill the space, I rebooted and came across the chkdsk screen.
Normally it would scan my HD mft, rarely pick up an error, and then continue booting. However, it became stuck in a loop of removing $0 from file 25. After an hour I decided to kill the power and restart.
Using Linux command-line ntfs checking tools, the partition remained exactly the same as they didn't report any errors.

When I booted this time, instead of getting in a loop chkdsk printed only one-line about the $0 fix on file 25 and half-an hour later my computer booted.

Now no services will start as they think I've booted into safe-mode - that includes internet, sound, firewall and anti-virus Angry

Currently, the only way to acces the net is to choose the safe-mode with networking option. Boot using last working config and start-windows normally boot me into a fake safe-mode.

Something has become corrupt, and I'm hoping it isn't major as my XP install disc is scratched. Do I just need to fix a config file or change a setting somewhere?
