Whats interesting to me about this is I heard about this on talk radio and that the New York Obama Times was reporting on it. So I went to google the story from them.

In google you get this:

Quote:

Obama may delay tax rise - Yahoo! News
President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying a campaign promise to roll back ... New York Times – Mon Nov 24, 7:02 pm EDT. Blogs About This Story (6) ...

But when you click the link, the link has been deleted. Gee I wonder why Sarcasm

And, tbh, the Electoral College hasn't even met to decide the winner. Razz

Also, like Goztow said...He's the President-Elect.

This has to be the biggest 'no shit' of the year.

It's gonna hurt too, because quite a few people like this woman,

I've forseen this for a while now. Things like the military- he's already been finding that some of his goals are just unachievable. There was a report a few days ago that during his first security briefing, he was nearly in shock and his eyes were like 20 feet wide.

Now I guess I know why George Bush is so happy these days.

Yeah, you're criticizing Obama and he hasn't even assumed office yet. You know, you could give him a chance instead of pissing and moaning about every little "dig" the AM radio gives you on the man. But it's all good, he's still going to be the fucking MAN either way, and you're going to have to deal with it for at least four years just like every sane-minded citizen of the world has had to put up with the last 8 years of complete and utter incompetence under George W. Bush.

Obama has absolutely no fucking clue what he's going to do with the economy. He's already made it clear, by changing his plans, that he isn't confident with his original intentions. While I commend him for not being a stick in the mud, people really should stop praising him because he is nothing more than a typical politician.

My biggest issue with Obama is that he has made it painfully clear that he wants to socialize everything in America. That's not what America was founded on, and it's not a system America can thrive on.

But he's not going to. I seriously doubt that the United States will be a socialist paradise anytime soon. You only have to look at his keeping Robert Gates to see that Obama will be following a relatively centrist position.

Nothing big will change within six months, let alone four years. It'll take time for any of his reforms to take full effect, and their consequences to be realized.

I just see a continuing pattern of America moving that way. While he won't be the one to bring full-on Socialism to America, I fear that any addition to the move to it is too much. Not that an imperialist ideology like McCain's would have been any better, but it's easier to end a war than to make people take responsibility for themselves.

There's a good Economist article on America moving to the left from a while ago; pretty good critique of what your country is going through.

It's interesting that while you guys are moving to an increasingly large government, Europe, is taking a huge interest in Canada, where we've been pursuing a right-of-center approach of fiscal conservatism. It's paid off too, because we're the best performer in the G8.

You guys ought to look North some time. Mr. Green

Here goes Cabal8616, completely misinterpreting my post. If Obama turns out to be as INCOMPETENT as GWB has been, he won't have my support. The thing is, I'm reserving my judgment and giving the man an honest chance.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have people like Darkknight who clearly just exemplified their lack of maturity, clearheadedness, and capability for independent thought on the matter, by dismissing Obama completely, nearly two months BEFORE his INAUGURATION DATE.

Had GWB proven competent, I would have supported him. I'm not sure why you're so anti-Obama, given that he's obviously posturing for a centrist governing style. It's probably just partisan brainwashing.

edit - I'm really looking forward to Obama nullifying Bush's "executive order" ban on stem cell research in January. Just think - we COULD have had 8 years' worth of research in the field today. And THAT is one of the many reasons Bush has definitively lost my support.

Here goes ryan3k, being an arrogant cock again.

Here's the thing. I'm NOT criticizing him for his bad presidential qualities. How the fuck can I, he's not in office. What I AM criticizing him for, however, is what he's said and done so far. I can go into great lengthy detail as to why, but I don't think it's necessary to get my point across.

The fact is though, he's run for president, he held a political seat, and will soon be our president, and so on and so forth. What, does that suddenly make him exempt from criticism?

Bush has been a rather competent leader if you ignore the media for a few minutes, and look at the facts.

Iraq is a success, it's impossible to deny that. While there still is definitely an insurgency problem there that will probably never be completely crushed, it is FAR better off than it was when we went in and trust in the United States is generally high. Ask any soldier (which I have, many times) and they'll corroborate that.

We haven't been attacked on the home front again since 9/11. Isn't it ironic that Bush has had the highest approval ratings of any president- highest when we are attacked, lowest while he keeps us safe. He's doing something right.

I'm also giving Obama a chance. He's proven to me beyond a reasonable doubt that he's an intelligent, level headed dude and there's a dozen other reasons why I think and hope he's going to be a great president. I'm simply skeptical on a few of his promises because I kind of realize some won't be possible. Notice how it's already been determined that the troops will not be coming home immediately. What I DO trust him with, however, OVER John McCain and any other candidate, is the economy. From the beginning I had him pinned as an economic/civil president. I have faith he's going to set us back on the right track, but it will take time.

Here's to all hopes that he listens to his generals and military advisers, though. That is the one area he does not have very much expertise in, but needs a huge amount of attention from the next president.

I'm out and stuff for the next few days so please don't expect me to respond in a timely manner, but I will do my best.

yeah

Nah, you just thought you were being a clever little prick with the following gem:

Quote:

LOL GEORGE BUSH SUX LOLOLOLOL oh but hey you should respect Obama y'know he's our president, don't be mean!

I'm sure you thought you exposed my "hypocrisy" or something. In a world where people's feelings get hurt online, my response must be arrogance. The bottom line is, you misinterpreted my post, and I called you out on it. Let me reiterate: Bush lost my support due to his incompetence; therefore, if Obama proves to be incompetent, he will not have my support, either. In the meantime, I am reserving my judgment.

Quote:

We haven't been attacked on the home front again since 9/11. Isn't it ironic that Bush has had the highest approval ratings of any president- highest when we are attacked, lowest while he keeps us safe. He's doing something right.

But are you attributing the safety on the home front to the notion that we are "fighting them 'over there' so we don't have to fight them 'over here'?" Or to domestic initiatives? Because the former has been responsible for 4,000+ troop deaths.

If it weren't for Bush, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz' gross mishandling of the Iraq War at the outset, our soldiers would be home, by now. One of their biggest mistakes was their disbandment of the Iraqi Army after the invasion. What did all of these freshly unemployed, angry, young men decide to do with their time? They took up arms. Another mistake was not sending enough troops in the beginning, with everyone in the administration predicting the war would be a "slam dunk." This meant we didn't have enough troops to stop the mass looting that occurred after the invasion. The ensuing lawlessness and lack of order allowed the insurgency to take root and recruit followers.

All this, my friend, is incompetence and poor judgment. We wouldn't have needed a troop surge had it not been for these mistakes. Focusing on the success of the troop surge often leads one to ignore the mistakes that led to its strategic viability in the first place.

Anyway, on the subject of public opinion - during times of conflict and war, the President invariably gets a public opinion boost known as the "rally 'round the flag" effect. It doesn't mean the President is necessarily doing anything right. In general, public opinion is best taken with a grain of salt, if not ignored entirely (at least when it comes to foreign policy issues).

This isn't some obscure study; I can tell you that Dick Cheney certainly subscribes to it, given that he replied "So?" in a recent interview to the question, "Why should we stay in Iraq if public opinion is in favor of immediately ending the war?"
