I recently got a new comp, got it hooked up to a network alright used a wireless usb receiver.

Now I'm finding that every few minutes my ping spikes for example in ren it jumps from 180 to 800.

Someone suggested it could be because my wireless usb network adapter is cheap.

Any ideas?

A cheap wifi adaptor could cause you problems because it will lose signal and then regain it all the time causing you lag spikes.

I have never been a fan of USB WiFi adapters, I find PCI cards with an aerial on them have vastly superior performance to USB stick adapters. If you have to use USB then get an aerial that plugs into USB rather than those little stick things, they might take up more room but they almost always give you better performance.

I would suggest buying a wireless card to put in your computer, USB ones are... cheap.
