I'm sure your parents had good intentions, so I wouldn't hate them for it.

The only thing you should and obviously are doing is to think for yourself, and decide for yourself what is proper for you.

You may see your parents as narrow-minded, but it's not their fault, as they were taught and treated much more harshly than you by their own parents, so this sort of thing is ingrained in them, and there is probably nothing you can do to make them understand.

Such is the way of things...perhaps someday you will be fussing at a child of your own, who will think that you are a n00b Smile

I get really angry when I hear of people doing that to their kids, it's wrong in so many ways and to be honest, their views are so backward like muslims reading books backwards, something really wrong with it.

I enjoyed watching the movies and I only read one of the books, which was the last one (just had too, after so much hype) and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I disagree. You received that book on your own as a gift with no ties to your parents at all. You read it at night while they where asleep in the room that they gave to you.

-They didn't pay for the book or endorse it in anyway. It was a gift.
-They where asleep while you read it, so you weren't reading on their time.
-You read in your room that they gave to you, so you weren't invading in their space.

There is no connection between them providing for you and that book and how you used your time to read it. They did not have any real right to take it away. All of the reasons you said (living under their roof and eating from their money and sleeping in the bed they provided), have nothing to do with that book. If any of those where taken away, it still wouldn't effect your ability to possess and read the book.

I can understand that your parent's beliefs are what they are, but there is a limit.

They got on the anti-Harry Potter bandwagon without even reading the book. This bandwagon assumes that the book teaches how to do magic. These are the types of people who would hate anything and worse, take action to prevent others from doing what they themselves don't like to do.

Well, Harry Potter is an incredibly easy read. It may be a lot of pages, but it is a children's novel.

I'm not much for reading in the first place, but I don't really like the whole "world of magic" concept.... the stories aren't bad, I just don't like the theme.
