Three undersea cables "accidentally" cut within a few days? I seriously doubt this is an accident. What do you think? Terrorists or just someone playing a prank or being dicks? Seems like a LOT of effort to go through for a prank, especially since Im sure they broke multitudes of laws.

The locations where many of the recent cable cuts have occurred (China, Pakistan, Palestine/Egypt, and now Iran) is highly suspicious. I suspect that the U.S. intelligence community is using a sub to tap into the fiberoptic line to capture all of the data. Unlike copper lines, they probably can't splice into glass fiberoptic lines without breaking the circuit for a while.

1) Cut the line somewhere roughly, so it clearly looks like an accident
2) Somewhere else far away, splice into the line using a sub, so the NSA can capture all the data (or even potentially alter it in transit)
3) Let the commercial communication providers fix the obvious break
4) Profit! (at least in terms of intelligence gathering and cyber-war capability

Definitely a reasonable scenario. ^

What makes this likely is that not only are these cables just Internet traffic but also telephone traffic.

If we think about it, and if an advanced intelligence entity was indeed behind these mysterious incidents, then it is all the more possible...finally someone gets to listen in on what the Middle East leaders are talking about.

Unless their using their own lines... that'd piss them off lol.

No one is "blaming" Americans. We are only looking at likely scenarios.

For all I know, it could even be a coincidence of accidents.

Like I said before, what is the point of doing that? There is no point. It is redundant!

The point of running an internet wire across the ocean is so that things on the internet can be shared over seas.

So what is the point of intercepting information that you are already going to get.

Why would the US waste time and money to do something that redundant?

No.

When people send information to another person, the information doesn't go EVERYWHERE. The only places it goes is the places the information needs to get through to get there.

only a couple of TBS's of DATA lol.

It would be nice to have fiber optic uplink at home, then it be reasonable to host a home dedi.

Iran prefers to live in the middle ages anyways so they can route that link to my place.

Interesting theory that it is a high-tech way to isolate Iran, and to tap into their communications.

Quote:

"...to have three undersea cables – or is it actually four cables? – cut in the same region in just a two-day span, strains credulity; the more so, when we look at how the damage has played out across the region... communication cable cutting in West Asia leaves Israel and Iraq still connected, while completely shutting down the Iranian internet. Funny how that works, isn't it?" asks a professor on his site.

And the coolest part:

Quote:

"Iran is back online, but... its traffic is now passing through the UK and the US, the latter controlling the 13 primary routers. Can you say wiretap?" queries another.

Well, they should not have been so arrogant in the first place.

EDIT: I am pretty sure the Israelis are involved.

Isn't it also interesting how there is not a peep of this from the major news outlets...the sale of yahoo makes front page yet no mention of entire continents being deliberately cut off the net.

That's just the thing though. Nobody knows that continents are being deliberately cut off. We just know that they ARE being cut off. The deliberate part is still MIA (Or at least, any evidence of such beyond the suspicions of random bloggers).

I think Blazer is right on this one. Forget the "deliberate" part, even the news of the 4th cable cut is not covered at all.

FYI it has been confirmed via satellite that there were no ships in the area, so that rules out "anchors". Still think it's not deliberate?

Maybe some deep sea creature has a taste for cables, otherwise... it must be deliberate, surely... (or the boats are not visible via satalite...)

The lack of ships does not prove it was deliberate.
