I suppose the main idea of C4 armor is that it'll cause whoever is attack you to hit the C4 instead. However, how effective is this, really? Don't bullets just pass through? I've tried this numerous times, but I haven't got a clear result. About the only definite thing I know about this is that loading yourself up with about 10 of these and standing next to the enemy's Terminal can kill it.

you can't kill MCTs that way. That's the reason C4 are sticky. Either it's attached and does full damage or it isn't and does none at all.
MCTs don't take splash damage, and that's why it actually does less damage to shoot an MCT with a splash-heavy weapon (Rockets, grenades) that it would if you shot the outside, or some random non-MCT part.
I suppose that's a good thing for balence, though, otherwise buildings would die super quick if you shot around the MCT with a MobArt or something (Shooting there is still a good idea, as it tends to pick off repair monkeys)

On topic: Oddly enough shooting at MCT with Rocket, (through my observations doesn't do less damage. But statistically it does. I think it might be Renegade rounds up the damage everytime.
And, a fun thing to do is put a lot of Proxy Mines or Timed C4 on SBHs and make them run up to n00bjets. It's so funny seeing them go "WTF LEIK H4X DOOD!" Yep.

I've never seen someone use c4 armor, as most people want to get out into the field of enemies base as quickly as possible to have some fun playing the game.
