ob·sess /əbˈsɛs/ [uhb-ses]
–verb (used with object)
1. to dominate or preoccupy the thoughts, feelings, or desires of (a person); beset, trouble, or haunt persistently or abnormally: Suspicion obsessed him.
–verb (used without object)
2. to think about something unceasingly or persistently; dwell obsessively upon something.

Source... Dictionary.com
No where there, or anywhere it say's that it's when a person can't "control his/her desire"

It means your thoughts are overcome by something. If I had a obsession of donating to a charity, it doesn't mean I'd be uncontrollably donating. It means it's always in my head.

Hold up, I wasn't talking out of my ass?! Maybe MWright should try learning the meanings of some words before he spouts off. Maybe 12 year old boys and 37 year olds aren't too different. They both seem to think they have reason to believe they know everything.

Interesting.....So they define the word ''Obsessed'' with ''Obsessively''....I thought that wasn't possible? Oh, right. It isn't. However, a minor infraction I suppose.

Lets see...

To ''dwell obsessively upon something''. Now lets see, by your definition Obsessive means: To DOMINATE the thoughts, feelings, and DESIRES of someone. Now lets see what ''Dwell'' means:

''to linger over, emphasize, or ponder in thought, speech, or writing (often fol. by on or upon): to dwell on a particular point in an argument.''

Hold on, now lets look at ''Dominate'':

1. to rule over; govern; control.
2. to tower above; overlook; overshadow: A tall pine dominated the landscape.
3. to predominate, permeate, or characterize.

Ahhhh! I see now. Okay, so apparently what your saying is this:

Obsessive means: To CONTROL the desires, feelings, and thoughts of someone.

Now, I'm no genius, but I'd kind of say that if something else is controlling you, and to become obsessed, I wouldn't say YOU are in control. Oh, and hey, that 3rd definition is interesting, ''characterize''. So it characterizes you. You are characterized by your obsession. Oh and hey, lets not forget Dwell. Apparently you linger on the obsession and constantly bring it up. Gee, what is this starting to sound like? It sounds like someone may not be in control of their actions, thoughts, feelings, or desires.

Sorry Blue, but you fail on this one bro Thumbs Up

Silly old man, you need to realize in what context "dominate" is being used. It is probably best described by the third definition. Let's look at it, again:

3. to predominate, permeate, or characterize.

Now, to predominate means that it just merely has more influence and you dwell on it more than other thoughts. It doesn't mean it's controlling your thoughts, necessarily.

Oh, and you completely miss the point of "characterize" in this example. If you're to replace it with "dominate" in the definition of obsession, you would realize it would say "Characterizes the thoughts". Nothing about characterizing someone. Just because a thought may be more affluent in your mind than other things does not mean that it is controlling you.

It sounds like what you just said is pretty much......What I said, repeated in a way that is slightly more confusing and honestly doesn't put any shame to my already stated argument

Uhh, I proved that obsession doesn't mean that your thoughts are controlled by one thing. I can be obsessed over a great song, but listening to a song over and over again doesn't control my life.

But domination and control do, and those are both definitions of the word 'Obsess'.

I suppose you can interpret it multiple ways, however, my way is still 100% legitimate.

Because from your example, Obsessive means ''Something else controls your desires, feelings, and thoughts''. In other words, YOU don't have control over those. Something your ''obsessed'' with does.

Look, its okay to be wrong. Just give it up.
