That is kind of a feeble realization to come to, back when I was like 13-14 and someone tried to tell me how retarded anime was they would always show me videos of that "KAWAIII DESU" shite and I believed them, I told my mate about it and he verbally slapped me in the face and showed me some real anime, boy did I feel like a hypocrite, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsings etc, Pure awesome.
Most importantly, Cowboy Bebop, is most probably the best anime ever produced. The soundtrack is excellent and the English dubs are brilliant. The movies released along side it are exceptional and is probably the best space themed anime out there, not to mention the script writing and dialog, After watching the first 3 episodes of that my opinion of anime changed dramatically.
Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

Yeah. I mean sure, there's shit anime out there, but come on- can you tell me bullshit like all the reality TV shows, cartoons like "Johnny test" and other bullshit are better?
I fucking hate lucky star and k-on and other retarded lol so kawaii desu~ anime, but if something is good, I'm not going to discredit it just because it's anime...

My point is the post I made earlier in the thread- anime isn't something completely different, it's just Japanese animation. But because people hate it, it suddenly becomes something different- that's the only reason why it's treated as something else entirely.
It's not, it's just another form of entertainment...

You ended up liking it because you enjoy story telling. Like I said, ignorance does play a part, but it isn't the main factor.
There are people out there who just don't like to sit through a story unless it's piled up with tons of constant action.
While there are a lot of action anime out there, it's a bit of a stretch to get someone who isn't into listening to a story to sit down and watch it; let alone keep track of an episode count and watch it in sequential order.
Also, as a side note: Lucky Star is awesome! It's just like Seinfeld; just that the main characters are high school girls and the animation is more moe than anything. But seriously, it's a show about nothing.

Most, if not ALL cartoons are created by adults. Are they pathetic too?
Have you ever watched any cartoons or anime? Most of them have a very adult background such as politically incorrect humor, jokes that children find funny while adults relate it to society and much more.
Family Guy and South Park for example are cartoons too, specifically designed for adults, you don't let your children watch those.
Everyone has his/her own opinion about what they watch. Calling them pathetic is nothing more than generalizing a big group of people. It's wrong.

For some reason, I remembered this thread and then I thought of an example to add to my argument:
One of the most loved anime series (especially in the US) is Cowboy Bebop.
You ever hear an anime hater say "Anime sux! Except I do like Cowboy Bebop..." It's because Cowboy Bebop is able to satisfy the attention of western audiences much better than many other shows. How can this be? Well it's because that even though there is a grand story line that undermines the entire series, each episode also holds a self-contained plot of it's own. You can pick up and watch any episode without being left out of the loop.
Another example of a show like this would be Ghost in the Shell. That anime also has a lot of supporters.
And, technically speaking, Lucky Star also follows that same format... but the only reason why that show isn't as popular should be pretty obvious: it looks like it belongs on a pre-school network.

1: It's a comedy show, if it followed some form of plot where you need to watch previous episodes to get things, it's doing it wrong
2: It's not popular in the west because its style is ridiculous. It tries WAY too hard to be LOL KAWAI DESU UGUU DE-GASO

I love that word "uguu." I always lol when I hear it.
Also, comedy shows don't necessarily require non-linear plots. For example, the most funny comedy anime that I've seen is School Rumble (technically it's a romantic comedy but whatever). Now, it doesn't necessarily have a big story line running through it, but it does follow a sequence of events. What happens in one episode will form the basis for later episodes in the series (character development wise).

I dunno. Comedy shows that have a plot, or even just a few plot heavy episodes, generally end up sucking.
Cromartie High School is a perfect example of how anime comedy can be dome amazingly well, though. No plot whatsoever, and actually fucking funny.

Well this topic is still going on. I have to say I haven't watched much Anime recently (maybe a year or so) the last thing I saw was GITS (for the third time)
Im not too sure whether I just dont enjoy Anime anymore or whether its just I dont have time really to sit and watch it.

It's mostly because there just aren't any interesting anime that've come out lately.
There's only two that have remotely interested me- Shiki and Durarara. Shiki I've watched and was actually pretty good, despite the ridiculous character designs.
Durarara I still need to watch, but it looks amusing at least from what I've seen.
Really though, when you have shit like this:
It just makes you lose any and all hope that Japan is capable of producing anything REMOTELY worthwhile.

Most of it IS really girly. But there's some nice serious ones. Such as:
Death Note, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Monster (Haven't finished watching it but all of what I've seen is great so far), Shiki (If you can get past the FABULOUS designs and weird hairstyles), Detective Conan/Case Closed (Same anime, just called Case Closed in the US, but they stopped dubbing it in English due to shitty sales... so as much as it pains me to say, it might be better to start off with the Japanese version *ugh*), and a few others I probably forgot.
also, on the (really low chance) you're into manga, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the best fucking thing ever. FABULOUS characters who are also manly at the same time (Except Giorno, Giorno's just a faggot), tons of lulzy references to music, some of which are hilarious (A villain named Vanilla Ice), and it's been running since the 1980's until now where it's STILL running.
