Yep, Got a new computer from my dad. Sexy processer, 100gb hard drive, great sound card. But it has it issues. Turns out this machine was all about the processor and lacked memory (512 on one stick!) and graphics (intel, intergrated into the motherborad, 256mb, directx 9.0. No trasform or lighting. Sucky Drivers (the updated ones are crappier then windows default. Drivers have a memory leak that intel yet to adress after 5 months now.

Now I'm fed up with it. I can't play command and conquer 3 after 30 minutes, even with the bare-bone settings.

I tried to take my old card out from my older machine, but being abit older then the mother board it was incompadible.

So I come to the Renegade off-topic forums for help. All I ask is for a great directx 9c Grapics card, with t&l, That can play C&C 3 flawlessly with a price range of $50-$100. Thanks for your help.

7600GT > 6800GT/GS > 7600GS.

Not sure of the ATi equivalents. That's roughly around the price range, but some may be a little higher. They might not play the game on highest settings/resolution/AA and AF, but it will run it good without having to use low settings.

AT LEAST get another 512MB memory too.

Not sure about the cost but the 6600GT is to my mind the best bang-for-buck card nVidia has made since the Ti4200

I have the 7800GS, and its the best AGP card Nvidia has made. Its a bit expensive still (I think).

It was, until the 7600GT came along. It was better and cheaper than the 6800GT, and performed just shyly of the 7800GS while being much cheaper. The 6600GT was good, but it's not the best bang for the buck anymore. In modern times, I think the 8800GTS 320MB actually holds that title.

P.S. Miss the Ti4200. That card was SO good in it's times.

Gainward released a card called the Golden Sample 7800GS+ Bliss (or something like that). What many don't know is that it's actually a 7900GT. It has all 24 pixel pipelines and all. That's the fastest, though I don't know if nVidia "officially" released it, so you're kind of right.

This card is so much bang for the buck that I bought 3 of them! I have two of them in crossfire mode in one PC and another in the kitchen PC.

It plays CNC3 just fine, and even comes with a 6' HDMI cable - those things cost $20 just by themselves!

All that for $69...thats a deal for *any* PCI-Express card, much less one that is decent for gaming and media centers!

Not bad. I wouldn't opt for a X1600 series card myself though. While that's price does some justice, if you're going to use rebates, for only $10 more, this gives you much more performance.

Thanks for that, I haven't been keeping up to date on the latest hardware.

I don't miss the Ti4200, I'm still using one in this PC (my main desktop). Fantastic card, I won't part with it.

Ha, I'd still be using mine too, but due to a combination of a fan failure and the thermal paste going bad, I figured it would be easier/cheaper to get a new Ti4200 (which can be gotten for what, something like $25 on eBay?) than fix it. I just opted for a 6800 series instead.

Yeah, the 7600GT is exactly in the same spot the Ti4200 was. They were both cheaper AND better than the last top of the line card, and they were both within VERY close reach of the next up model.
