Well my computer has a 250gb hard drive and when I first got it and installed the drive it had a maximum capacity of 127gb. Anyone know how I could fix this?

I'm sorry for being rude like that. I tried reformatting and looking in the BIOS but neither worked.

Interesting, I thought it might be the OS being unable to address more than that amount of space, damn

Err... tell the people you got it from the drive's broken, I can't see another fix.

Did you install Windows XP with Windows XP SP2?

Else what motherboard do you have?

CarrierII was on the right track. Windows XP, by default, has 32-bit addressing for Logical Block (LBA). This limits the maximum HDD space to 127GB, like you're seeing. In SP1 and higher, it's increased to 48-bit. If you're on a bare Windows XP installation, as you said you are, update to SP1 or higher (you should have done this anyway). This should most likely do the trick, so see if it does.

If not, I'm afraid cat998 is right in that your motherboard's BIOS is too old. Update it if possible. If not, they do make PCI IDE cards that you can get as a workaround.

Install Windows XP SP2. You should be able to obtain the remaining space via Diskmanagement.

Unless you have a PC with less then a Pentium 4/ Atlhon XP I doubt it's the motherboard being not able to have the 250GB.
