Well I'm a n00b to Renegade and I've been having probs using the netgame.
I have followed the instuctions at installing the Renguard and I've re-installed Renegade probably like 7 times...
But the prob is that first it works but it says that a file named GAME us buffed so I have to delete it to access game... But by deliting it the game doesn't start... after I install the patch again GAME comes back but the now Renguard doesn't work so I can't play...
What's the problem? Please help!

YOu know I have done that 7 times as I have sayed... The problem is that it doesn't like the GAME.exe file but it is necessary to play...
It doesn't want to play when I don't delete it but it also doesn't wnat to play when I DO delete it!

What operatin system you use? You can use game2.exe to play without renguard for the moment.

OK, Renguard does not support win 2000. Use game2.exe to play on the net (c:\westwood\renegade\game2.exe normally) untill you get Win XP.

Right click the link on your desktop, do properties. At "target" you change C:\Westwood\Renegade\Renegade.exe to C:\Westwood\Renegade\game2.exe

Using game2.exe makes you not use Renguard so ofcourse it says that. It's a temp solution untill you get win xp.

OK,
First of all, I want to applaud the efforts made by BHS and it members eg Crimson.
Now thats out of the way,
The fault is with Renguard itself, BHS has not kept upto date with the OS of current time and just been happy that it works for Win98 etc.
Ofcourse, to the common user, win98 went out of use by the end of 2000 or at the latest 2001. This is what I mean, out of date....
Windows 2000 and Windows XP, even 64 bit OS are having probs with renguard as they dont support what Renguard it trying to do. This causes a number of different effects depending on your OS.
My OS for the past 4 years has been Win2000 Pro. I got back into playing Renegade about 1 yr ago only to find this damn thing was nagging the crap out of me about getting Renguard, sometimes getting kicked cause I didnt have it.
Host on some servers use this to get rid of people to make a game unfair or because they just dont like you, this abuse, unfortunately cant be administrated and thus its going on without any checks.
BHS, should for all intensive purposes, forget the little issues like small exploits, at this stage who cares. Users are getting kicked, abused, called cheaters etc because BHS to this has failed to release a stable program for the above mentioned OS systems.
As a last note,
The community is suffering, users are leaving or giving up on waiting. The so called Anti cheat program has made the community dependant on a program then hasnt kept upto date and thus evryone suffers.
I only ask that BHS release a working program soon before the community comes to a steady but progressing DEATH.
Again I have no bias in this matter, I am just a end user, I applaud the efforts made so far, just disatisfied like many other end users cause my experience with online renegade has been very poor due to the inaficiency of Renguard and the community dependancy on a flawed ( at this stage ) Anti-cheat program.

It works perfectly on Windows XP. The problem is that windows 2000 is originally a server version of Windows. If you choose to use it as an end user operatin system, then ok...
64 bit OS did NOT exist when RG came out. They could not preview this or if they could, they couldn't test it. The new version will take care of this but this takes time as this is all stuff done by voluntarees.
The fault is not at renguard but at the server owners, as you put it. They choose to protect their servers with renguard.
I said it before but saw noone actually do it: go to the forums of the server you want to play at (www.thekoss2.org/forum if you want to play at ours) and explain your problems. Then ask to take it in account. At least the mods won't !forcerg you and they can also !unforcerg you if you get forced anyway.
I agreet hat an update would be nice but can you imagine how hard it is? We are against some smart people and attacking something is always way easier than defending! All these people "we"'re fighting against do illegal stuff but we need to protect ourselves in legal ways.
So please give it some time. I don't agree that the community will die because of renguard, I think it wouldn't be as alive as it is today iof renguard did not exist!
