Where are Mrcod? Javaxcx? DrasticDR? The rest of the legend snipers?

On it's day, this game was great... how does it stand up now compared to it's buzzing popularity of a few years ago?

Once I've got me new PC (soon I should hope) I think I may return.

Are the servers dead, or do alot of people still play?

I'm sure you'll find a server that has everything you want. There're still that many players. Smile

(well, you won't find a fanmap server with 50 players on it at all times, but anything else Wink)

Yes he is. I saw him in the n00bstories.com server once(or maybe it was unrules). But it was only once. Perhaps he does not play much.

When I used to play my emphasis was completely on sniping, used to love it.

Occasionally I'd forget sniping and try and help my team.. only occasionally though. Blush

If you call jumping around with a weapon that has no recoil, and does absurd damage, being a sniper: go play BF2 and find out what it takes to actually be a sniper in a video game.

In Renegade the only difference between you and every other character is that your weapon kills instantly and has a magnification ability, and that you flicker at warp speed due to a client-server bug when you magnify in your scope. So I don't honestly think anyone deserves the name "sniper" in this game, unless your definition of it includes jumping around without any concealment with a huge rifle you'd never be able to fire in that position.

Ah, ACK.

Good to see everyone hasn't gone.

I must just buy BF2.

Thaaaaaank you! I was hoping someone would eventually say this. It's actually kind of similar to Halo in that respect.

Then again, I haven't seen much difference in Day of Defeat or Counter-Strike, either. Somehow, some way, people are always able to run-and-gun with the AWP, or even some sub-machine guns, and still hit their mark. >_>

It's harder to snipe in Day of Defeat then it is in Counter-Strike and certainly Renegade.I don't know about BF2 or any other realistic game.

I still play. I don't know if you know who I am, but I've been here a looooong time.

I've been playing Dystopia a lot, sniping with the Mk808 rifle that has a very weak zoom and requires three headshots to kill even light infantry. You can run and jump while playing around with that gun, but they better be headshots or you're going to need to spend one of your four clips just to kill a medium considering that the gun does appear to have a slight spray effect to it.

I must agree with Aircraftkiller, Renegade sucks compared to BF2. If you have ever played BF2, you will see the difference.

Theres a difference between BF2 and Renegade. Renegade is not meant to be realistic while BF2 is, simple.

Its not worth it atm. Wait till the price comes down and some mods come out. Or there are other ways of getting it.

Yep, know you too... also a very good sniper.

Regardless of how realistic the sniping is on Renegade, what else can you call it? You're using a sniper rifle... simply calling it 'shooting people' will wind up getting people confused. You look at ACK's post and you'd think I said Renegade's sniping was the most realistic thing in the world!

BF2 was vastly un-impressive. Renegade is more fun than BF2.

I'd still be playing BF2 if the recent patch didn't kill my framerates, and if my wireless connection would hold up long enough to play an intensive game.

BF2 is superior to Renegade in many aspects, especially in persistent character growth and difficulty of playing. Some newbie can't just join up and slaughter you because they have a better rifle, it depends on their skill level and how well they handle the recoil of their weapon.

I play it about 15 hours a week still In Love . It's still a unique concept and by far the best gameplay for any FPS around in my opinion.

You will still find loads of servers, though many are empty quite often. There are many serevr side mods though, which you may not like if you ever knew the real renegade game. But if you seek very well, you'll still find one or two servers without it Wink (not to make publicity for ours Razz).

Join in again, u'll get the hang of it soon enough again!

There are many servers that either dont run server side mods or that run very minimal amoutns of them, and some servers take it to an extreme. It all depends on what you are looking for at the moment

It's official. I am the worst pilot in the world. My jeep-driving skills are at least sub-par, though.

What am I talking about? Battlefield 2, of course. I got the demo just today. Man, it really is awesome... Even on the lowest graphical settings. I think I like the terrorist side more than the...uh... No, the bad guys more than the good guys.(Yeah, this way I don't seem like I'm completely stupid... >_> <_<;) But seriously, I cannot pilot a jet to save my life, much less a helicopter. But I'm a pretty decent gunner for one, at least! Heh, this game rocks so much...
...but I'll always come back to Renegade because of its delicious simplicity and, of course, the fact it's a Command & Conquer game. :3

Your on crack. Renegade is the best game to EVER have come out, I have been playing it since day 1, played for 9 hours staright the day I got it Big Grin Sure, BF2 is good, and so is COD 2 but these are modern games that picked quite a few things from Renegade!

While I agree that Renegade is lacking in a lot of areas, it's hard to compare it to all these new games. Renegade isn't just a team based FPS... it's Renegade. People have said this so many times before, but it still appeals to people even after all these years because it's so diverse. Other games offer different character classes and whatnot, but there's just more of everything in Renegade... even if it is more simplified. That and it's still fun.

If you gave Renegade all the things that people like about modern games, but kept the core gameplay, I think it would be 10x better than BF2.

I'm not really a good sniper on Battlefield 2 heh. I could spend more time practicing then I could probably become fairly good. I prefer vehicles, especially flying. BF2 is the only game I have that has decent flying. The flying vehicles in Renegade just... suck! Whereas in Battlefield 2, it can take quite a bit of effort and sometimes quite long to get a good pilot off you, but losing missiles is pathetically easy. I like losing other pilots by flying through the turbine tubes on the Kubra Dam (I think it is) map. Its funny when they try to follow :>
