what good would a serial be for fds? i have 1 already...got form friend but why have serials?? Tell Me

Its because WOL is sortof an IRC server.
Every user and fds logs in on that IRC server.
The FDSSerial and GameSerials all start with a different
sequence this is how WOL IRC distinguishes a FDS from a Client...
If it didnt do this, then all players would showup as a 'server'
in WOL mode....

cant they just have a global serial for the FDS and have 123 or something

Yea, i guess that would be possible, but we dont have the 'powers'
to edit the WOL IRC servers unfortunately...

interesting point though, if BHS could somehow gain access to change the WOL code think of all the changes that could be made (such as distributing CP1, CP2 etc via the WOL auto-patching system! )

WOL is not only for Renegade, its also for RA2, YR, Generals etc
WOL has all the serials for these games stored in its database
which would be accessible then by people who are not employees of EA..
