When making clans I have people give me there passwords and nicknames, It prevents people from getting my clan password then quiting and giving it out to everyone. If the clan leader can be trusted there is nothing wrong with that.
Of course this was years ago when I played in clans.

2. Tell Them The Join Password
3. Wait Until They Have A Name In The Clan
4. Change The Join Password
