GDI will be too dominant unless it's a really small game if hillcamping's disallowed

Eh, it's far easier to hillcamp with an mlrs than an arty, this move would benefit NOD not GDI.

Not the case, since Nod arties can kill the PP, WF and refinery, whereas an MRLS can only hit the Ref, which isn't a terrible loss on Hourglass unless it happens in the first few minutes

I remember back in the days when b2b was alowed and there where like 5 mrls behind bar (including me)
it was always a war for the 3 mrls who would get a chance to hit hon Laughing
was always funny when a sbhs slipped by and threw some c4.
Till someone came with no shooting from behind bar. Later when i came back after a year it was called b2b. Anyways Is it a bug,ore just people cant take the fact Gdi can
whore there?

Field, is a bug..
mesa, not worth to b2b
Hillcamp on hourglass is just like it started with b2b people started complaining when gdi was being whored from hill.
Funny thing december 2003 i remember those days Gdi was always winning cuz there mrls was hitting ref, people didnt ore did know how to. but never realy came in how to own hill with arties then.
As for hillcamp not Fun some servers are disalowing it Cuz a big game on hourglass without fighting on the hill isnt fun in my opinion, Hourglass is about the hill, else the game will turn in like cnc flying ramjets for 40 mins.

Sry for this offtopic.

Now ontopic. Make a server sided wall for no b2b!
As for walljump. If its a bug that vehicels can come there, then make it so they cant. If its not a bug then leave it like it is

Wow, I am at a complete loss as to how you can base to base on Mesa. Does it involve firing through the cave? Or is it like Field?

If this should not get out (Razz) the someone can just PM me. As if I will b2b. Razz

I'll get some screenies and post them in a bit.

EDIT: OK, go to http://www.fudonline.com/mesaarty.jpg for a screen of what to do. It's not horribly effective, the best you can land is probably about 50% of your shots if you get perfect positioning because the spray on the arty at that range makes most of your shots hit the top of the hill instead of the GDI Ref, but it's still pretty BS. As far as I know there's no way for GDI to duplicate this, but GDI can hit some buildings with Grenadiers while Nod can't fight back this way early game, so I guess it evens out in a way.

It's also possible to b2b with rockets on Complex and with a nod arty on Islands (but that's so far away you hit about 1 every 8 shells)

I'd say only fix the B2B. Driving over walls is a viable strategy. Plus, I absolutely HATE invisible vehicle blockers... I'm driving along, and suddenly, BANG! I crash into something I can't see. There go my parents' car insurance rates! (j/k) If you are going to block vehicles, at least do us a favor and have a plausibe, VISIBLE object blocking the ramp.

The infantry ramps ARE the visible vehicle blockers in Mesa. That's why they are there. The ramp isn't made for vehicles... it's made for infantry... If they were to put something else there, it would defeat the purpose of putting it there in the first place because then infantry wouldn't be able to get past it either. Vehicles were not meant to be driven over them.

Still, there IS a ramp there. And believe it or not, vehicles can drive uphill.

A more logical solution (though not as simple to implement) would be to replace the ramp with stairs that infantry can jump up. Then infantry can still pass freely and vehicles will very obviously be unable to pass.

Personally though, I see no need to do this. It's easy enough to defend against wall jumping. No need to disallow it...

You're right. There is a ramp there. That doesn't mean you have to drive on it. You do know that not all ramps are made for driving vehicles on right? I have yet to see some idiot haul off and try to drive his vehicle up a wheelchair ramp. If it were meant to be driven on, they would have made it a size where that was obvious. Oh my god. You mean to tell me that the reason it is only wide enough for infantry is because... gasp... it's for INFANTRY!?!?!

There are already walls like that all over the place blocking off infantry-only areas (e.g. tunnels). So maybe if the ramp were NOT meant to be driven on, it would have an invisible wall at the top. How do any of you know for sure what Westwood's intent was?

The fact of the matter is that vehicles CAN drive over the walls. And I really don't see why you're getting all pissy with me, because I was being helpful. Converting the ramp to stairs would fix the "problem" without adding a potentially annoying invisible wall.

It's pretty clear what was intended and what wasn't. A wall exists to block people from transiting that area. Not to challenge them, and see how good they are at jumping.

you could just change the ANGLE of the ramp, so instead of allowing vehicles to pass, it lifts them unevenly and they fall over.

I tend to agree with this. If Renegade had more realistic physics, only the Recon Bike would be narrow enough drive up the ramp. A Medium Tank wouldn't be able to get over the barrier with one track, or a Buggy with one wheel, because in real life gravity would tip the vehicles over. They wouldn't be able to balance on a ledge perfectly with only a small area of the vehicle actually touching it.

Also, some servers (Gamerz0ne AOW at last check) explicitly allow hillcamping on Hourglass.
