^^

It was designed for 512, I'm using it with 512. Got more, not sure whether to use it again.

The more RAM you have the merrier the computer will be. Running just a few apps at a time can really crunch. When I run Kazaa, MS Word and Adobe Photoshop at once I can use up all my ram no problem. (I have 512 MB)

I'm totally aware of that; however, someone said something about windows ME running better with 512, since it was designed for a maximum of 512. Using more than that could in fact make the operating system worse off as a whole. I'm asking if anyone can confirm this.

Never heard that before...That would be very odd if it was but then again it's Mircosoft we're talking about. My friend a computer has ME, freaking terrible un-reliable pos it is because of that OS... Evil or Very Mad

Yea it can be bad at times, sometimes it goes through a stage where everything seems to be unstable, then it can work fine for many restarts, then it'll act up again.

WinME only 'support' 512mb... you can isntall more, but you should declare this extra ram as a fix value for the vcache in your system.ini

[vcache]
minfilecache=your extramemmory (e.g. for 128mb use 128 * 1024 = 131072
maxfilecache=same as above

HTH Cool

(Same goes for Win9x)

Think of your computer as car for a second.
You have your basic, box standard car, with only a 1.1 litre engine
Later on you decide to remove the engine and put in a 2.0 litre or soemthing Laughing And then you decide to lower the car, then you decide to put some spoilers on it. (And then a little paint job Razz )
This is a metaphor for your computer. The better the components, the faster the components even... Then the faster your PC system will be.

True the newer the OS, the more ram and CPU and stuff it requires (alot of the time)
When Windows ME was made, a 512mb was like the best thing to have back then, if you add more than that these days, say goodbye to the past! as your PC will be will basically "be fast as fuck"!!! Laughing

LOL, hope you can understand what I'm saying, I talk crap half the time by explaining things in metaphors :rolleyes:

LOL

Speaking of XP, get the Pro version if you can. XP Home is crippled in several key areas including account management and network control.

Also, count on spending $250 US minimum. Some places have agreements with MS to allow them to sell versions of Windows(usually OEM) at a greatly reduced price(I've seen as low $139 US) as long as the purchaser is also buying a non-trivial, non-periphreal peice of hardware such as a hard drive or video card.
