I don't know that anyone in this country could view what we've seen so far as a diplomatic success, [I am] saddened that this president failed so miserably at diplomacy that we're now forced to war.

This makes me SICK. How can this mental midget shove this line down our throats and expect us to believe that the president is to blame for the failure of diplomacy to be effective in disarming Saddam Hussein? It's absolutely ludicrous. You have to love the delivery as well. The first line is a truth that you can't dispute. He is right that this was not a diplomatic success. Then, once he's got you lulled into thinking he tells the truth, he goes and blames it on Bush. Nevermind the fact that Hussein is a heartless monster. You can't reason with a madman and this failure of diplomacy proves it. Now, we have to speak in his language, the only one he understands.
Now, Mr. Daschle, how long has this conflict been going on? Oh, at least 12 years, back when Bush, Sr. was in office. And who was in office for 8 of those 12 years? Oh, that's right, your man, Clinton... who didn't do a damn thing when Saddam made the inspectors leave...

Good, now I know where you get your propaganda. Funny how someone who thinks media is a poor resource for information, doesn't mind using it to his own ends.
Whatever country you are from, you need to travel, see for yourself, and not just sit behind a computer to view the world. I have, and I know things that propaganda machines could never reproduce.

I came along these sites co-incidentally, I do not read the mregularly. I just found it interesting what was swritten there.
If you really want to know: Out of the US media I like the Z-magazine the most. Many intellectuals write in there and a lot of what they are saying makes much sense and is provided with profound background knowledge.
But my point about the media is not to pick up one source which one can trust, but not to beleive in whatever is said in the media and to question it everytime. Propaganda can so easily affect us, which it does, hence it is in one own's responsibility to try to keep a broad view on things and to try to read between the lines. The world is not black and white. There is no good and evil.

I currently have in my favorites:
CNN
REUTERS
ABCNEWS
ASSOCIATED PRESS
MSNBC
I find REUTERS the most non-biased of the major information sources.

I don't know why we stay with 2 party politics. These asses are pulling this at the worse possible time in order to get elected. I highly doubt he has noble ambitions.

I do not trust in any media, especially in war times. And I do not trust the authority, because it has deceived the people ever since. To put it at its simplest.
But I think this whole debate becomes useless. we all have presented our postitions on this very difficult issue and noone will be able to convince the other one. Still, I think I got some insight into the 'American' view on this issue, which I could not do before. So there is some profit in this discussion, but I don't think it is much use to go on with it...

Very true! This is what I am talking about! You, Kirby, obviously DO have a critical view on particuliar things, especially because it is your 'political opponent'. Hence you do not believe every single word they say and you DO question their motives. What I say is that one has to do that with every political party, regardless wheteher you support them or not. There is no need for opportunistic obligation to a particuliar authority.

I get the idea that you are using subjective viewpoints to denounce that there is good and evil.
Look at it objectively:
Bush is trying stop a tyrant, even if it means he has to pay a price.
Saddam is trying to gain power through fear and violence. He doesn't care if 1 person or a million people have to die for it.
Those are objective facts of the situation. It doesn't matter if someone thinks Bush is good/evil or Saddam is good/evil. It doesn't change reality.

I'd hate to break it to you, but those are all biased sources. People that search for bias in the news as a job have mentioned how biased they are...I could name a few books if you'd like.

Oh please do enlighten us with your qualitative 18 year old, high school education, and experience. The reason I pull from a spectrum of sources across the globe is to bring an educated opinion to the table from many viewpoints.
You on the other hand, have provided no proof, sources, and only one rock guitarists opinion. Every source is biased, moron. Figuring things out for yourself is the only real proof of intelligence there is, not quoting rock guitarists. You blatant hatred of reason, and counter-opinions is baseless, and shows ignorance, not logic. Post a useful counterpoint, then back it up with more than conjecture and opinion, and I MIGHT consider something you have to say. Don't just spurt out the first hateful garbage that comes out of your mouth.

every source is biased. but not necessarialy in the facts, just in the presentation of those facts and sometimes the omission of facts. cnn is known as a very liberal "clinton news network" they tend to report the stories that show america and republicans in the worst light but do they lie? no. they report the facts they want you to see based on the liberal opinons of their editors and owners and sponsors. the same can be said about all news sources as well as every possible source that you can name.
the point to this is, as kirby was trying to point out, that to form a proper informed opinion on world events, one must take many sources into account. you should read many different websites, magazines, history books, commentaries etc. read alot and also take your personal experience and the experience of those you know and then form an opinion. always take into account the source, its credibility and its motivations.
there are many people on these forums and elsewhere who do not do the above and in MY OPINION, most of those i've encountered have been blindly on the side of anti-bush, anti-america, anti-iraq war. i've seen the same liberal talking points spewed out over and over and over again saying "its about oil" "it's bush's daddy calling the shots" "iraq has done nothing" "the un should govern all" "it's revenge for assasination attempts" "hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians will die" there have been others, but i'm tired and babbling too much. bottom line, none of these arguments hold water and most of them have their origins in liberal focus groups where dems try out various slogans and pick those with best reaction. wow, i really am babbling on too long i'll end it here. if i could just bring myself to stop typing and hit submit here goes.
