"WAREZ a term used by software pirates use to describe a cracked game or application that is made available over the Internet, usually via FTP/IRC/P2P, often the pirate will make use of a site with lax security. Widely used in cracker subcultures to denote cracked version of commercial software, that is versions from which copy-protection has been stripped. Hackers recognize this term but don't use it themselves. The WAREZ mentality discussed in this article connotes the mindset of the hackers/crackers who make this copyrighted media available. "

Evil or Very Mad Those evil people at EA have really done it this time:
Quote:

End of Earth & Beyond is nigh

Electronic Arts announces that it will close down its sci-fi massively-multiplayer online role-playing game in September.
Electronic Arts has recently updated its official Earth & Beyond Web site with the unfortunate news that its "online role-playing galaxy" will effectively cease to be on September 22, 2004. The massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), which was developed by Westwood Studios, will have been in operation for a little over two years when it is switched off.

EA has taken the decision to close the game so that it can focus its resources on future games. Players are advised to check their email for updates and information on what the announcement means for them.

Earth and beyond most likely shut down because they tried to compete in the next new big market(MMOGs) which is only a couple years old. The problem is that they have to compete with games like Everquest, Ultimate Online(yes people actually still play this...I think), Anarchy Online, Dark Ages of Camelot, Star Wars Galaxies, Planet Side, and couple others that I cant think about atm. The largest out of them is EQ with over like 400,000, maybe close to 450k, active accounts.

EQ is gay, the monsters are just stupid looking when u start out, have any of you seen the Skeleton, It walks around like something from a disney musical. I wont pay $15 a mopnth for a game with shitty graphics and gay looking equipment. Yes, there are still people playing Ultima Online, and the Next Ultima has new graphics and better gameplay then the previous entrys to the series.

You also have to remember with the Graphics with EQ, its what, 6 year old game, and they had to make it where the PC's actually had to be able to run it back then, some of the zones in there are freaking huge and there are to many things that can go into it.

hmmmmm Earth and Beyond uses w3d.... Is anyone here smart enough to use XCC to extract some of planet w3d files and textures. I may have a use for them.

EA Sucks.

Just trying to be helpful.

I bought earth and beyond long time ago, but I never tried it because I never found enough time for it. I was gonna give it atry in the summer, but if it is being cancelled, I don't know. Do many people still play it? Will some people still play it if they will know that it will be cancelled? I got one month free, so I am going to try it, but I hope it wil be worth it....

I'm just wondering how long it's going to be until we get news like this for WOL...

I like many of you don't look forward to going to gamespy, I play Call of Duty and Halo on gamespy and the community is lacking a few IQ points to say the very least. Shocked

I think both have their fair share of idiots. I run a server on WOL, and quite frankly, many of the players on there are seemingly retarted. I've been working with some trying to get them to to type out "you" instead "u" for the last three months.
