Hello all, I'm purchasing a new computer soon, and have my heart set on a laptop. Looking through most vendors I know of, however, it seems like all of the video cards are ATI 9600s or lower. I have heard from a few friends of mine that getting a 3.2 gHZ P4 EE with HT would undermine the video card's performance. Would getting an Athlon 64 DTR 3200 work any better?

The places I looked were: http://www.thunderboxpc.com http://www.hypersonic-pc.com http://www.go-l.com http://www.velocitymicro.com

Ideas?

Thanks

Don't get a laptop, get a desktop. Laptops aren't upgradable.

I had a laptop with an integrated 64mb GeForce2mx and it had better fps then my non integrated GeForce2mx. Of course the laptop had higher specs, but not by a whole bundle. But that lappy died quickly, got store credit back and got my lovely new comp. Word of advice, laptops are fun--for the first month or so. Stick with a desktop. Unless of course you can get both.

I have a laptop. It's pretty good. Not too bad, and I really needed one for when I go on vacation. It really depends on what you need it for and if you travel much.

oh BTW in the near future laptops should have 3D screens and a larger viewing radius!

I have a really crappy one that I use when I go on vacation. I play C&C GOLD and Command and Conquer: Red Alert on it. Of course its crappy. I get low fps and quality when playing both. Heck, it even runs Sonic the Hedgehog slow on my emulator*.

(*Just so ya know, I do own the cartrages for the games I play, so it is legal)

I use a laptop. Its a Sony VAIO PCG-GRX550. Sonys are the best computer manufacturare. Get a Sony VAIO dude! I have every C&C game in on my computer and i have no problems playing other than lagging on the internet. Cost me about 2000$ but it was worth it!

I suggest getting an new Alienware laptop. It is the only laptop that I have seen that allows you to upgrade.

The custom built Compaq 2100's are upgradable. But, those are only the custom built ones, very rare and hard to fine unless you live around the Georgia region, for some odd and unknown reason.

Most the time people buy a new computer instead of upgradeing, so whats the point of worrying about it being upgradeable? lol Razz
