Is it just me, or is the Marine in this story a dirty ,rotten, self serving, medal hunter?

I would NEVER leave my dying son's side, let alone my poor wife who would have to deal alone afterwards. As if the the other 50,000 Marines really need his butt over there to whoop a third world army.

There's loyalty to the corps, and then there's being a father.

(P.S. He WAS given a choice by the Corps to stay with his son, and decided to ship out before they found him a heart.)

Forgot the link, I was so bent. Here it is:

You and I, both being parents and former military know the proper choice this guy should have chosen. IMO this Marine is a coward! He is afraid of dealing with the possible death of his child, and having to help his wife. This fucker should be Dis-honorably Discharged for making a poor judgement call. He is selfish. There are words that I would want to call him, but I can't seem to type them up.

Just that he does Not do the Marines proud. He is just a simple

COWARD!!

I read the story at http://www.cnn.com Fuck him. His excuse for going lacks logic.

Amen, K9. That little boy needs his daddy.

Marines, I mean no offense to the Corps. This could have been any service.

No wonder our divorce rate is 75%.

I personally don't think any off us have the right to judge this man, he made what he thought was the best descision for him at a very hard time in his life. I am also very offended about the "dirty ,rotten, self serving, medal hunter?" part. Does the word "PATRIOT" ring a bell.? YOU cannot say that you wouldn't have made the decision he did, because you didn't have too.

Seems that his wife understands more than you people seem too.

"If he can't make it home, I understand that," Betsy Sellers said from the hospital. "I feel bad for him. He's got the harder end of it right now. I get to hold [Dillon] and see him. He can't."

Wrong. I can. If the country was in danger of being invaded, I WOULD GO. It isn't.

Patriot does ring a bell. I answered that bell long ago, and served honorably. If you have orders to go, you follow those orders. He was given a choice. He chose the Corps over being a father.
And as I stated above, this is not a personal attack on the Corps. i have nothing but respect for it.

Because he chose that action, not because he HAD to.

Are you married with children? How long have you been in the service? I had 8 years and have a wife and 2 kids. This guy made the wrong choice. I would never have held it against him to stay with his family for that situation. His choice doesn't make him a patriot. I can tell you from my experience that I bet 80% of his company has little to no respect for him now.

I am a veteran! I am Proud of it! I back our troops! I do not support this guy’s decision. Don't preach PATRIOTISM to me. This guy would have been a bigger patriot if he would have chose to stay with his critically ill child. That would have shown the world that our troops have a conscience. You tell me you could honestly leave a child that is dying, when you HAD a choice to stay? Get real! If you could, then you didn't deserve to be a parent!

It all hinges on this statement:

"Before he left, the Marines had offered Sellers a desk job at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, a small desert town 140 miles east of Los Angeles.

But Sellers had been training for months as second in command of the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, and he said he was concerned about bringing in a new member so late in the training. "

Are you telling me that this is the reason to leave a dying son?

What happens if he gets killed in combat? I bet the Corps would replace him in 10 Seconds with a spot promotion. He had orders to still support the corps, AND be with his family.

You are WRONG...YOU are second guessing what you would do in that same situation. That is an impossible thing to do. Just because he made a hard decision, he is not a father..bullshit. And I never said anything about you not answering the "bell" did I?

We are arguing semantics here. I merely stated that I answered the call, to lend credibility to my statement, not argue with you. MY point is he is a poor father. I have debated for 2 months now whether or not to go back in and serve. I keep saying no because of my kids. They need me here. If the United States of America is in danger of falling to an agressor, I will go. It is not.

Jesus christ you guys! NOT ONE OF YOU understands anything I have said. I can't tell you what I would do in that situation ( just as you can't) because I (or you) DO NOT have to make that decision...now do we? All I am saying is no one and I mean no one has the right to make judgement on this mans decision, same as I would NOT judge one you made.

I see your point, but repsectfully don't agree. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't want to split over this, as there isn't a damn thing we can do about it anyways.

This is unfortinate. As you know people in the military are always judging one another. This is one of those stories that will have this guy judged harshly and IMO rightfully so. Again I ask, do you have kids? If we were being invaded, I wouldn't need to re-enlist. I have plenty of guns to fight along side anyone. But Iraq is NOT an INVASION RISK! So this guy not being there is NOT going to hurt his unit.
I will also end here as we all are going to differ in oppinions.

Correction, our country has already been invaded and the attacks have been going on for years. Except of course there is no military uniform etc. This war is about disarming Saddam which in turn would disarm the kind of people who are invading the USA for the purpose of desctruction. To put it another way, their 'troops' are here, we hope they dont have anything 'nasty' already & disarming Saddam is one way to keep them from getting 'the nasty'.

Actually, in perspective of what the conversation needs for debate, it is relevant. A man with no children cannot truly understand the bond.

Ok, so I'm guessing by your smartass remark, that even though the last three previous posts to yours referred to patriotism, and you quoted a remark referring to patriotism, you decided to post an opinion, and remark on a conversation, with something totally off base to what we were talking about?

Seems foolish to me to complain then about being misquoted. Pick your battles wisely.

As a parent who has served nine years in the army I say this:

I would never respect or fight along side a man (leaader) who turns his back on his family. No matter what the argument is... this idiot had a choice to remain with his serioulsy sick child and he chose to leave. We had another term for "medal hungry" in the army. We called these idiots "px soldiers." I worry for the Marines under this so called leader - If he does not care about his own family, what does he care about????? My opinion is he cares about himself!

I would always be angry at people who said "you don't have kids - you don't understand." Now that I have kids, believe me, I understand 100%! You care for your kids more than life itself... if you don't you are a rotten parent. You would have to shoot me and drag my dead stiff body away before I would even consider leaving my seriously ill child's side, let alone the rest of my family!!!!!

We have two ears but only one mouth. So that we can listen more and talk less.
