Well, I think I have "earned" the right to do whatever the hell I want to to do. What have you done for your country....smart ass..

My family already does enough for my country (and yours in fact, because I have a cousin in the American Airforce. She's a helicopter door gunner or something. Yes She.)
Since around 80% of my family are in the forces, and becasue I grew up in a town in the Cairngorms where the RAF (and Marines) go for physical training, I decided to do something different, Mechatronic Engineering. I MIGHT join the forces yet, but if I do, I'm going to go in at officer level with a degree Laughing

So what do I do for my country? Well, not much right now, I'm getting an education. The most I do is serve drinks at a bar to Marnies off duty from Arbroath. (A drunk marine is a very bad thing.) But give me time...

I'm not trying to dis you here, it's just that I'm always dubious when people online go on about being in the forces. They usualy turn out to be kids who've read a few books, wanabees, or cadets. And the comment about getting fat, I said that becasue most of the ex-marines I work with are still as active as they were back in their day. They usualy go for Bouncer jobs and work, train drink, sleep, Work train drink sleep, and agian and again.

Idiot.....no I take it back...you are a fucking idiot.

"Combat Engineer" I't sounds like something out of a game is all you tetchy fuck. Wink [/i]

Thanks a lot man, its been bothering me a lot. I see your in the Marines (or were not sure) How was basic training for you? Hell? Thanks again!

Once a Marine always a Marine, boot camp was longer and tougher back when I went in, after about a week I thought I was gonna die...LOL. It was one of the toughest and one of the best times in my life. It did wonders for many of us that thought we were "tough", learned very quickly that we weren't. I served as a combat engineer specializing in explosives.

I can understand that you felt that you'd die. I have a friend who moved to the states last year and joind the Seals, Hell week was "a fat-ass bitch with a shitty tude" in his words.

Ditto on this...I've met folks in real life who knew a lil about the forces and claimed all kinds of crap that wasn't true. Same holds true for some folks who were in the forces but got 'da boot' cause of health/mental reasons. I'm not saying anyone here is lying, cause I have no idea...just saying there are definatly folks out there who claim to be n the forces / were n the forces who are full of shit and should go fuck themselves for claiming such a thing.

Heh, my m8's brothers girlfriend was discharged from the army before she even finished basic training because she developed shin splints. She still comes out with the things like "when I was in the army."

This is awesome. I love discussion like this (well incept for that little flame fest at the beginning!) Ive decided to go for the Marines, because personally I honestly dont believe im mentally fit enough for the special forces in that manner(Everyone always tells me how the special forces have to be extremely mentally tough and handle anything) Well ive been reading up on the Marines Basic training http://usmilitary.about.com/library/weekly/aa060400a.htm and it seems extremely difficult. I mean of course this isnt even the gist of it im sure but its nice to know to prepare me(ive got an appointment scheduled with a recruiter) So I mean what should I know before I go into it? Ive been training and stuff like working out double time and running around with backpacks full of weights and in heavy clothing(I dont think thats good for you but I guess it would be like running with full gear on!) Well anymore help on the basic training section would be appreaciated. And, can you fail it? Or no?[/url]

I don't remember the title of this topic saying "Let's see how many servicemen we can insult". First of all, IF either of you had ever served then you might understand the pride of someone who has served their country in the armed forces. Second, IF either of you had ever served, and were'nt going on your obviously very limited knowledge of servicemen (& women), then you would know a fellow commrade when you talked to one. As with any profession there are certain things that only someone who "has been there, done that" would know or could relate to. There is not a doubt in my mind that Jarhead & Kirby and many others that I've talked to have served as they say, and feel the pride of having done so. This thread started with a question about a military slogan, and you both came in here without addressing the topic and commenced to insulting those who were posting on topic (SPAM?). Personally, I could'nt care less if you believe myself or anyone else here actually served or are perpetrating a fraud. What I do care about is that you insulted someone I consider a friend and a fellow comrade with no just cause, and that puts you on my shit list. The same goes for firemen, policeman, paramedics, etc..., anyone who puts or has put their life on the line to protect the safety and welfare of others. I've known alot of people who've filled these billets, who were some of the biggest a-holes you could ever meet, and I might have told them such, but I would never insult their profession. One of these days, when you grow up, hopefully you'll understand this.

Well, since I have my basic training this summer, I've been training heavy duty for it. REFINE YOUR SLEEP. Holy mcfuxx0r I cannot stress this enough. If you're fucking sleeping like 14 hours a day, you have a problem. (This is all advice given to me)

Currently, I can get by a full day on about 4 hours of sleep. Pretty crazy, eh? I don't do that very often, because it's quite bad for the body. I'd go for about 5-6 hours a night, tops. I've heard that they also like to pull surprise PT training at 3am occasionally. So be quick on your feet when you wake up.

Generally the rest of the days probably won't be as bad as the sleep issue. The sleep is what my pals have always told me is the most aggrivating and mentally anguishing thing.

Some might say the yelling, screaming, and PT is bad... But if you are physically fit beyond the extent of high school athletes, chances are, you'll do fine.

**DO NOT** go running around with big weights on your back. Thats a sure fire way to assrape yourself out of the corps for good. If you really want to do that, just do it with smaller weights, like 20-40 lbs. And even the 40 is stetching it a bit. You have to be really careful about your back. If it dies, you're as good as useless. So don't strain yourself with that.

Pushups, heh. Try and be able to endure them. If you can do like 60-100 without problems, you'll probably be fine in the start off. It's all how you get off on the right foot. You'll be strained there, but at least you'll have an edge that others may not have.

Don't be a jackass. Thats probably obvious, but unless you want problems, (eh Dante? Wink) then don't wank off during mess hall, don't intentionally do your drill wrong... etc...

Thats my two cents, I'm sure Jarhead and JeffLee can help you out considerably more, however. =)

Ive never actually tried the sleep thing though (I usually slepe like 4 hours at night and well basically all 6 hours in school Wink) But yah maybe I should cut back with running with the weights....hmm thanks for the advice on that one! I can easily do 75 pushups before working out but after my work out 50 is a struggle (weak shoulders) I seriously have a problem like listening to orders and I get yelled at countless times at work and need to be told like twice because my mind is on other stuff although when Im there I highly doubt my mind will be on anything else lol! Oh well thanks for the info man! Good luck this summer (btw where u going sc or ca?)

Have you taken an ASVAB yet? If so, do you know what field you would like to get into? Infantry is good if you're thinking about the military as a career or going into law enforcement after, but if you're looking to do something else with the rest of your life, you should consider a more technical field. Whatever you do, don't go "open contract". Make sure you sign up for something specific and don't be too eager. It's kind of like dealing with a salesperson, try to make them believe they need you as much as you want them. Don't sign anything the first time you talk to them either. Ask questions, get literature, ask more questions, but don't sign. Recruiters are pretty sly, and like salespeople, they might tell you sign now or miss this opportunity. No matter how friendly they might seem, to most of them you're just a number to fill their quota. Anyway, after you do talk to them, let us know what they said and I'm sure if anyone here can help, they will. Good Luck Very Happy

HMM, insulting servicefolk. Posibly I caused insult to a serviceman, but I haven't struck out at any profession. That would like visiting everyone in my direct famlily expect from my sister and grandmother then spitting on their unforms. Why don't you simmer down and read more carefuly next time.
I'm curious though, what do you guys do now? And if you dont mind me asking, how long was your service, and why'd you leave?

Oh, by all means, do run with a small amount of weight on you. It really doesn't do much, but prep you. You'll feel very lightfooted after you take it off. Smile I once desided to wear these 10 pound ankle weights. Thats 10lbs per leg, I wore them for 5 days striaght, minus in the shower. I wouldn't move my legs in the shower, as to not unbalence anything. After five days of running and jogging etc with them, I took them off.... And Holy dog shit! You'll run like the wind. I almost kicked myself over doing it, because my legs flew up so high.

Aside from that, you WILL defeinately need to start rearranging your attitudes. Make sure you get it right the first time, and don't fuck up. It does take practice, but you'll get the hang of it.

Finally... I'm not in SC or CA (whatever those are Wink) not being an American. I'm currently in the Reserves, and ditching them this September for RMC. MUAHAHHA

USS Theodore Roosevelt
Hull Maintenance Technician 2nd Class (E-5)
Reason for Leaving: EAOS

I have served in the Iraqi, Bosnian, and Kosovo Theatres. Deployed to the Persian Gulf three times. I was close enough to have the oil well fires make it seem like night.

You can't make up stories good enough for some of the things we are "priveledged" enough to see. Serve, then come back and tell me if what I'm saying "sounds" real.

Well I guess I have to S-P-E-L-L it out for you. You may not have intended (though I'm beginning to doubt it), and I'm sure you don't think that you've insulted anyone, but you have whether you think so or not. That was my point, that unless you are or have been a serviceman, you would not understand. Believe me, I would'nt have bothered typing all that if I had not read all the posts "carefully". To sum it up, the point is that whether or not you think you've insulted anyone, you have.

Maybe you should learn to read more carefully, and who the hell are you, Doug, to question what anyone here does and why? Are you going to tell me that your remarks were directed specifically at Jarhead, or at any serviceman who happens to play Renegade and use these forums?

Oaths of Enlistment
US AIR FORCE OATH OF ENLISTMENT,

I (state your name), swear to sign away 4 years of my useless life to the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE because I know I couldn't hack it in the Army, because the Marines frighten me, and I am afraid of water over waist deep. I swear to sit behind a desk and take credit for the work done by others more dedicated than me who take their job seriously. I also swear not to do any form of real exercise, but promise to defend our bike riding test as a valid form of exercise. I swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, even though I believe myself to be above that. I promise to walk around calling everyone by their first name because I know I'm not really in the Military and I find it amusing to annoy the other services. I will have a better quality of life than those around me and will, at all times, be sure to make them aware of that fact. After completion of "Basic Training" <snicker> I will be a lean, mean, donut-eating, lazy-boy sitting, civilian-wearing-blue-clothes, Chairborne Ranger. I will believe I am superior to all others and will make an effort to clean the knife before stabbing the next person in the back. I will do no work unless someone is watching me (and it makes me look good), will annoy those around me, and will go home early every day. I consent to never being promoted (EVER) and understand that all those whom I made fun of yesterday will probably outrank me tomorrow. So Help Me God!
Signature ____________________ Date_____________ ***********************

US ARMY OATH OF ENLISTMENT

I, Rambo, swear to sign away 4 years of my mediocre life to the UNITED STATES ARMY because I couldn't score high enough on the ASVAB to get into the Air Force, I'm not tough enough for the Marines, and the Navy won't take me because I can't swim. I will wear camouflage every day and tuck my trousers into my boots because I can't figure out how to use blousing straps. I promise to wear my uniform 24 hours a day even when I have a date. I will continue to tell myself that I am a fierce killing machine because my Drill Sergeant told me I am, despite the fact that the only action I will see is a Court Martial for sexual harassment. I acknowledge the fact that I will make E-8 in my first year of service, and vow to maintain that it is because I scored perfect on my PT test. After completion of my Sexual.....er....I mean "Basic Training," I will attend a different Army school every other month and return knowing less than I did when I left. On my first trip home after Boot Camp I will walk around like I am cool and propose to my 9th grade sweetheart. I will make my wife stay home because if I let her out she might leave me for a better looking Air Force guy. Should she leave me twelve times I will continue to take her back. While at work, I will maintain a look of knowledge while getting absolutely nothing accomplished. I will arrive to work every day at 1000 hrs because of morning PT and leave every day at 1300 to report back to "COMPANY." I understand that I will undergo no training whatsoever that will help me get a job upon separation, and will end up working construction with my friends from high school. I will brag to everyone about the Army giving me $30,000 for college, but will be unable to use it because I can't pass a placement exam. So Help Me God!
Signature____________________ Date_____________ ************************

US NAVY OATH OF ENLISTMENT

I, Top Gun, in lieu of going to prison, swear to sign away 4 years of my life to the UNITED STATES NAVY because I want to hang out with Marines without actually having to BE one of them, because I thought the Air Force was too "corporate," because I didn't want to actually live in dirt like the Army, and because I thought, "Hey, I like to swim...why not?" I promise to wear clothes that went out of style in 1976 and to have my name stenciled on the butt of every pair of pants I own. I understand that I will be mistaken for the Good Humor Man during summer and for Nazi Waffen SS during the winter. I will strive to use a different language than the rest of the English speaking world, using words like "deck, bulkhead, cover, geedunk, scuttlebutt, scuttle and head," when I really mean "floor, wall, hat, candy, water fountain, hole in wall and toilet." I will take great pride in the fact that all Navy acronyms, rank, and insignia, and everything else for that matter, are completely different from the other services and make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I will muster, whatever that is, at 0700 hrs every morning unless I am buddy-buddy with the Chief, in which case I will show up around 0930 hours. I vow to hone my coffee cup handling skills to the point that I can stand up in a kayak being tossed around in a typhoon, and still not spill a drop. I consent to being promoted and subsequently busted at least twice per fiscal year. I realize that, once selected for Chief, I am required to submit myself to the sick, and quite possibly illegal, whims of my newfound "colleagues." So Help Me Neptune!

His back, weapon in hand, after having jumped from an airplane and
marched 18 miles, and says with a smile,
"This is good shit!"

A Navy Seal lies in the mud, 55 pound pack on his back, weapon in
hand, after swimming 10 miles to shore, crawling through a swamp and
marching 25 miles at night past the enemy positions, says with a grin,
"This really is great shit."

A Marine, up to his nose in the stinking, bug-infested mud of a swamp
with a 65 pound pack on his back and a weapon in both hands after
jumping from an aircraft at high altitude, into the ocean, swimming
12 miles to the shore, killing several alligators to enter the swamp,
then crawling 30 miles through the brush to assault an enemy camp, says,
"I love this shit!"

An Air Force officer sits in an easy chair in his air conditioned,
carpeted BOQ room and says, "The cable's out?
What kind of shit is this?"

General (1 Star)
The top Generals from all the services get together over breakfast to discuss how brave each of their services are. An argument ensues, and the Generals agree to go to each respective base to see how their men match up.

The Airforce General sees an airman, and says “ Airman! Go dodge aircraft on the flightline!” The airman says “Yes sir!” and is severly injured as a result. “Now that’s brave.” he states.

The Army General takes them to his base, sees a soldier, and says, “ Soldier! Go run through that minefield, doubletime!” The soldier screams “Yes sir!” and gets his legs blown off. “Now that’s brave.”

The Marine General takes them to Paris Island, sees a grunt, and says, “Grunt! Stop that oncoming tank with your bare hands!” He says “yes sir!”. Suprisingly, he almost succeeds, but is killed by the treads. “Now that’s brave.”

Well, by now they are all pretty impressed with the Marine, except for the Navy Admiral, who starts smirking. He says, “I’ll show you brave.”

He takes them to an aircraft carrier, where a seaman is up in the upper works, 9 stories above the flight deck. The Admiral yells up, and says, “Seaman! Jump off the yardarm!”

The seaman hesitates about half a second before yelling back, “Go F*ck yourself, Sir!”

The Admiral looks at the others, and smiles, and says: “Now THAT’S brave.”
