Missing zlib1.dll [message #487295]

i had this error until someone literally sent me a copy of theirs from their Renegade install
other people are having the same issue

is there a fix for it, or should i just host it somewhere and direct people to that download if and when the issue arises again?

Yes, it should, but the version of DirectX we use has changed since 4.0. (We now use DirectX 9.0c Jun 2010, the latest version of DirectX 9.0c.) So if you're seeing a message that it would not be installed then either the installer failed to run, or it did not install the right version of DirectX.

If you downloaded scripts 4.1 from here - then you shouldn't be having any problems.

Alternatively you could always download DirectX 9.0c Jun 2010 - which should also fix the issue.

@Sean: zlib1 is nothing to do with DirectX, it's a code library which is compiled into the various .dll files shipped with 4.1.

@liquidv2: Can you upload a zip with a copy of scripts.dll, shared.dll, bandtest.dll, wwconfig.exe, MemoryManager.dll and libconfig.dll from your Renegade folder so we can identify which file is referencing zlib1.dll. In 4.1 it is used as a statically linked library rather than a dynamically linked one so nothing should be trying to load it as a dll.

it wasn't mine - this was for someone else
i had the same problem though, so it should still work (right?)

all i did was upload a copy of the zlib1.dll file that was copied for me when i needed it (once that little 56kb file is put in the Ren folder, everything magically works again)
