The alien is a model i made so there is not much on that, mine is also black. I doubt that anyone is going to flame me for using an much used alien design..

Doesn't matter if you "made" it or not. Copyright laws have a thing that if something is too similar than it can be deemed a copyright infringement. Dispite the fact that you made it, even skinned it a different colour isn't enough simply becuase it is easily mistakable as the alien from the "Alien" series.

Just a friendly warning that is someone who cares found out, you could be in trouble if the original creator decided to act.

Not wanting to start a war (Again) I would personally like to hear from ACK about the RenAlert Mod. When will it be released? Last time I looked the site was down 'cause the owner pulled the plug. I heard that they were looking for another site. I'd like to know where it is.

ACK doesn't know when it's going to be released, because he's not the one releasing it. He's done his part, and the rest of the mod team has a life that comes first, which is why it's taking longer than expected... Well worth the wait. As for where is it now? Ren Alert.

Umm, ok u guys have a point about the model, its the head that looks similar... cauz the one in aliens has some bones coming out of his back (i think).

Well, if you search google for aliens i bet you will find loads of aliens with that type of head... It is a popular alien design for the head to be all long. And say it was too similar to the ones featured in the movie, im a 13 year old who plays a game which is unknown to many gaming industries. It isnt like they will check up on the mod.

I think that it is fine, it has a human like body, and all that... just the head.

If you guys should insist that it is too alike then I will go to like the Alien website and ask for legal rights. But im not even sure the movie Alien invented that type of alien. I would think it dates back a long time.

These guys MUST be trying to make the game live by dedicating time to it to make it better. If they didn't care about the game living, they would play Renegade, but mod for another game. ACK you should let other Mod groups get on with what they want to do- If they are enjoying what they are doing, they are not realy looking for recognition.

Ok if some guy draws a picture of the alien from the film alien i dont think anyone would sue him in anyway i cant see how this is any diffrent i mean its not as if your making money from that particular model :rolleyes:

Maybe so, but this has been gone over before. You don't need to make money off of it to be sued for copyright infringement. All they have to do is prove it's close enough to theirs and they have proof that they hold the rights. Money isn't an issue.

This is really bugging me, ok, the model has a fat head, with teeth. Oh boohoo, im going to be sued for making a model with a fat head and big teeth... its kinda crazy thinking this will get copyrighted.

The movie has the same alien many other things have, DONT THINK THIS WAS THE FIRST ALIEN THAT LOOKED LIKE THAT!!

The only thing that resembles the alien in the movie is the head. Just a frikin head! The body is totally different!

If you think i (a 13 year old) can get sued for giving a model a big head, really think about it. lol. The film Alien diddnt create the alien design (with the big head) that design wsas created about 50 years ago by some weird artist who painted aliens and ufo's and monsters and weirdo stuff like that.

And ACK, im not going to quote u cauz that would be messy but, why did you bring up the topic about us quiting? And we have stuff done already, 3 alien models, 1 human model, 1 space ship model and a mech in progress (not boned but animated).

I'm curious why you are bringing up the topic of us quiting (no one has quit) that makes no sence, and.. we are working, well i am. So I wouldnt make any insults about that. Seeing the mod has been up for like 2 days now, the work we have done is not bad.

Ok yeah you can be sued for it but seriously what are the chances of that happening people copy all kinds of thing without permission ive seen terminater mods, resident evil mods and james bond mods all of which have been unofficial FFS i cant see this being any diffrent....

and ACK i do my part by making mods ok there not as good as your maps etc there only cnc_c130drop files or as you call them n00bie mods i dont have time or paitents to sit infront of my PC and make maps etc i just realie on other people to make them like now im really looking forward to seing the final result of this TRTA mod and the new renegade Reborn mod an many others.
