Thanks but i fear that this Trojan could get me banned from servers Crying or Very sad or im being too dramatic.
EDIT: is there a way i can send my game.exe to AVG? like Jonwil did?
EDIT2: Ok AVG scanned my laptop and picked up the threat, now its moved to the virus vault. Does it Guarantee that the virus wont hinder with the game.exe?
EDIT3: I just ran the program and the virus never popped up (yay) but however it cannot find the game.exe Sneaky

Actually the other one is RenegadeServer.exe not Renegade.exe, there is a difference, I have yet to see Renegade.exe flag on any of my computer's antiviruses (Norton/Symantec/WindowsDefender).

Sounds like some AV programs added a new detection that's reading Renegade exe's as a virus. I'm sure it's fine, just a false positive.

You don't *need* renegade.exe, it doesnt DO anything except load game.exe. Just delete it and edit your shortcuts to point to game.exe instead.

Personally I still think its a false positive due to AV companies assuming any program which exists solely to launch another program must be malware.

Use Virustotal if you are unsure if your virusscanner is telling the truth. http://www.virustotal.com

I scanned it and it said that 5 of the 43 virusscanner think it is a virus.
If Norton, mcaffee and Microsoft's scanner would determine it to be a virus then I would start getting worried.
In this case Avg is 1 of the 4 others in which the 4 others are kinda mediocore scanners.

I had the same problem this weekend... AVG says my Renegade.exe was a trojan, then moved it to the virus vault. I've just been using Game2 in the meantime

It's probably a false positive, I've had this happen before with my games. Just have AVG ignore the file and don't send it to the vault.

Just set it on the ignore list and don't send it to the vault (or you'll have to re-install)...

This may be unrelated, but anyone else get a "missing mss32.dll" error recently?

I restored Renegade.exe so it isn't that.

And yes, I downloaded mss32.dll but that just gives me some exception error with it.

mss32 is the Miles Sound System library used for the Miles 2D Positional Sound sound system in Renegade. There is more than one version of the dll, so chances are any random version you get from the internet will not be the right one. Assuming the copy Mi-28 Havoc posted above this is from Renegade it should work properly.

Miles is actually a source-only library so that risk is considerably greater as the developers compiles Miles themselves and are bound to have different compiler settings.

I'm just going to reinstall.

I use AVG, is it possible to add Renegade.exe to an exception list? It's 'warned' me about 20 times today.
